Superb job on this cover, Sal. Don't let anyone change what you do. You're "real" and the songs come across as sincere. Pretty tough to beat a song done like this one is done. I enjoyed it a lot. The kind of music I like to listen-to late at night when the house is dark and quiet. Just me, my ghosts, and a song I can find myself in. [thumbup] [thumbup]

Nice, Sal......nice. It's not hard to understand why we like Gibson guitars, is it. And for the record, I much prefer your video clips as opposed to the audio only format. It nice to see the effort of a live performance.

Ditto.

Well done. Cool guitar, too. And for those who normally play with a pick, or for those who've just clipped their nails, the Rock-Tips product is actually good (better?) for the [EDITED]-> picking hand/fingers (thumb/index finger) - to apply a slightly hardened coating to the outside edge of the fingers for fingerpicking.

Agree.

And Mo'Pic is writing songs when he's just talking about songs.

Rock tips ? Does sal use this stuff ?

I'm not sure why it's mentioned here . Am not being rude 62burst, even though it sounds like it ...

just wondering if I'd missed something?

I don't do the long nails thing as by the time I'm used to a long nail ,it breaks and then it screws practice up .

So , I just got used to using my thumb skin/shirt nail. But I've never had an issue with needing some sort of product to protect me.

And no I'm not a mechanic with tough hands . I work in an office .

Nah, BBG- not for protection; I don't use it all the time- just good for times when I'm "between" having fingernail contact with the strings. Cheap enough thing to try.

Thanks all.

62 - I will indeed check rock tips out. I often want a little more oomph fingerpicking, bug I have a hard time making sounds that appeal to me using my metal national finger picks.

Regarding strumming picks... They all click too much for me nowadays... I have a hundred cheap picks. Maybe it's time to sort through and find the ones I like best.

I have arrived at a formula to counter "pick click"........

(iP+Fg)+Fa = Npn

And in my best irish brogue, y'all stu on that awhile an' I'll get back to you's uns.

Oops- I see where I may've created some confusion in post #9; as most folk tend to use Rock-Tips for a harder callus on their fretting hand, I only use it (occasionally, when the fingernails haven't grown out yet) for the picking hand to get some more clarity out of the wound strings.

Another song I didn't know.But I really enjoyed your treatment.I forgot you had that guitar.It's a beauty.

Let's see...

This is what I have now... Country Western Reissue, J50 Modern Classic, Martin D15, Eastman E20ss, a mexi-tele, and a bass. My two favorites are the J50 and the Eastman. However, I play them all, and I do love the square too.

I've sold off the rest, or given them away...

Thanks for the compliment FB...

I've sold off the rest, or given them to my boys, nieces, nephews, etc... Even a few to guitars for vets.

A few months back my young niece wished for an acoustic guitar for her birthday. My sister was about to buy her a $99 guitar center special. I stepped in. She now has a Gibson LG2 with easy action, that I hope will always keep her playing; her interest certainly appears to be more than a fad.

Thanks for the compliment FB

I know you'll love your niece

And your son

And anyone else you have given lg2's to

My hat comes off to you , but I'm still a little pi$$ed off every time I hear someone's got one from santa sal

Yea I played an LG-2 yesterday at Allans Music in Sydney.

I've played two of those American Eagles before and they weren't so great. But the one I played yesterday was so good.Loud, punchy.really low action but with heaps of saddle.I thought about it a lot afterwards.Sounded just as nice strummed as picked.

I remembered Sal's always sounded good in his clips...and that it was a guitar he said he would keep.

That's until he goes into Santa Sal mode! He is a generous basta*d indeed that's why we admire him - this amongst all his other good traits....

Very good song Sal, I have read a lot about Sturgill Simpson recently, maybe is's time to check him out.

Lars

By the way, at first I thought you had done a Springsteen cover. His song wirh the same name is a favorite of mine.
