Rabs Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 Wow that guy was amazing, ive heard a few of his songs before, but never seen him perform. Great player. SteveFord Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 http://www.welovead....etails/19aCklry This ad came out right after I took my wife to see Johnny and Edgar Winter so the timing was perfect.
Psychonaut69 Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 The man played from his soul for sure. Only saw him once back in 1992 in Milwaukee at the Eagles Club. I was about 10 feet in front of him the whole evening watching him play his Steinberger and jamming the **** out.
Tman Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Johnny Winter Captured Live was the most influential album of my young guitar playing self in the 70's. He was phenomenal. Thanks for that Rabs.
Rabs Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 Always a pleasure to share such awesomeness
Tman Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 I love Youtube... Because of my recent classic rock searches its now recommending me some stonkers :) btw what are "stonkers"? I am assuming butt kicking good, to use the american english (especially the southern US) vernacular.
jdgm Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 That's bloody stonking mate!!!! I was fortunate enough to see his 1st gig in England - in Albert Hall (with Edgar) - and then at Bath Festival 1970 same night as Floyd, Steppenwolf..... STONKING!!!! Superlatives are bandied about (and comparisons are invidious) but Johnny Winter was one of the greatest blues guitarists ever.
Rabs Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 btw what are "stonkers"? I am assuming butt kicking good, to use the american english (especially the southern US) vernacular. Stonker noun Britishinformal noun: stonker; plural noun: stonkers something which is very large or impressive of its kind. "it's a real stonker of a plan" (you can also use the word stonking :))
Tman Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I saw him in 1987 in Little Rock. It was freaking stonking man. (Was that appropriate usage? Just asking). I dunno. Sounds adjectival. Whatever, I mean you guys invented the language. I am a hack on this. Maybe Capsmaster has the answer.
Rabs Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 I saw him in 1987 in Little Rock. It was freaking stonking man. Haha, yeah that'll do :)
Zentar Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I think that first guitar he played was an Epiphone Coronet. They sell for thousands today.
Zentar Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I think that first guitar he played was an Epiphone Coronet. They sell for thousands today. The second guitar was a 12string Fender. May have had mini humbuckers in it.
Rabs Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 I think that first guitar he played was an Epiphone Coronet. They sell for thousands today. Was it not a Wilshire? I think the Coronet was a one pup guitar??
Zentar Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Was it not a Wilshire? I think the Coronet was a one pup guitar?? Dunno Rabs. I wasn't familiar at all with the Epi Coronet until recently. I only spotted this Epi because of the batwing headstock. There are several varieties. The Wilshire may be called the Coronet Crestwood Wilshire. I saw a Coronet 1964 for over $4000
