Problems, problems...

I was pretty stoked and wholeheartedly applauded our recent decision and commitment to just staying a 3 piece band after a couple of not great auditions. Sure, it's tough being the only guitar player, all that stuff, but me and Bass Player have played long time together and Drummer is just committed and really good, so we just work him in a little for vocals and we got it dicked.

And of course we have to change the material, much of it brought by the previous long time guitar player, so out some of it had to go. We brought in some yummy stuff, some Cream, more Grand Funk Railroad, and I had to get out my correctly rendered, complete with opening and closing from Made In Japan, Smoke On The Water. Then they come up with Purple Haze, so I have to knock that guy off, and I don't even really much care about that stuff. And hey, you gotta use the Strat for that stuff. So now, I have to take the EJRW to every gig, and since monogamy and guitar playing don't exist in my world, that means I will now be hauling two guitars out. Again. Yeesh. Just when I thought I had it down, I have to increase my roadieing by like 53% or something.

Then, Mrs is reviewing the setlist and all. She says "Cream? Really? Dude, yer gonna need a Firebird now. Again." I sighed mightily, and my shoulders sagged sadly as I put down my 5th sparkling wine, and I had to agree with her, knowing full well when to pick my battles.

Ok, prolly more like 6th or 7th sparkling, but whatever.

It isn't easy being me sometimes. So I looked at a couple today, including the Copper non-reverse thingy I saw earlier. It was kinda poop-y looking. The current "T" they had wasn't that great, so for now, I passed, and I'll think of something to tell her tonight as to why I didn't bring one home, and hopefully I'll keep looking and maybe find one later this year.

It's not like I like shouldering these first world problems, but I knew this was a place I could turn for understanding, commiseration, and an outpouring of supportive, supportly, supportish support and all. So I'll say thanks in advance.

I know right!!??!!

From a purely practical standpoint, and please bear in mind that 80% of my band's live experience has found me playing the lone guitar on stage, bringing several guitars is only common sense.

I generally pack at least 3 electrics, and at least two acoustics.

Keeping everything tuned up and ready, and accepting this this Gibson or that Fender (or Ibanez) is designed for just these set songs, etc, there will be times that you can do a quick change in the event of any unforeseen mishap.

(Guitar falls, a string breaks, or some rare electronic snafu.)

I guess what I am saying, you can't afford NOT to buy that Firebird, rct!!!

Oh, I though you said "Freebird." I remember playing in a band and almost every night someone would yell: "Play some Skynyrd." Then, we would play "The Breeze." Immediately afterwards they would yell: "Play some Skynyrd." What that really means is play "Freebird..."

Do you guys play Freebird?

Screw all that messin' around, just take the damn Tele.

If by some miracle you happen to find the one audience in the country that even notices and calls you on it, just remind them that it's common knowledge that all those guys actually recorded everything they ever did using a standard Telecaster in the studio. Roadying's for roadies, not rock-gods FFS.

Hmmm, tough one rct but I have never been a fan of birds unless we're talking about a Birdland. Would you dump Cream for Ted Nugent? Now that was silly wasn't it... Better just listen to your wife, bite the bullet and buy the guitar.., The hunt is the best part of the buy...! Just think how cool three guitars will look on stage!

I think you need a 335 or SG

I have an '11 50th Anniversary SG. No hollers or semi hollers. We do not get along. I've tried, I will try no more forever.

We used to. Our non-scientific double drunken blind studies found that when offering Stairway, Freebird, or I'm Yer Captain/Closer To Home as the last song of the night, more than 8 out of 10 times they wanted...drum roll...Grand Funk. The only Skynyrd we have on any list right now is Simple Man, and I guess we could do that in a pinch.

lolz. All of it. But no, no Nuge for us. I don't think any of us could get close enough on that vocal to not sound hilarious.

I don't think playing a Byrdland necessarily calls for songs of The Nuge or singing like him. ;)

I'm with Gibson Artist. Wish my wife told me I needed another guitar. msp_flapper.gif But as a fan who's been in tons of concerts, the wife and I Love looking at all the guitars they play. Sometimes they switch guitars for every song. She has asked me why they do that? Told her some guitars sound better for certain songs then others and some songs require different tuning and they don't have time to do that on stage. Like the acoustic part to American Woman in the opening. Hey. That's how I got the 5 guitars that I have now!msp_rolleyes.gif She bought me 1 and gave me $200.00 for another. I vote for the Firebird RCT.

I've never gotten along with them myself which is a pity because I think a '63-style 'Bird VII in Cardinal Red is one of the most gorgeous-looking solids out there and I'd love to be able to justify owning one.

Here's a gratuitous snap of the Epi version but nib-lack and bridge-posts aside it's pretty damn identical to it's Gibson brother;
