Butter or Margarine?

Digger

Recommended Posts

As I'm sitting down to a breakfast of wholemeal toast slathered with butter and vegemite, I'm prompted to ask what you prefer, butter or margarine?

For many years we had margarine influenced by the so called healthy aspects of it. We endured the ads with artificial cows delivering what looked like sump oil and claims that marg. was close to the recipe for plastic.

In time we gave in the the superior taste of butter, there is no comparison when it comes to taste!

At my age I'm inclined to think that if it hasn't killed me by now then it's probably not going to.

So what is your preference?

Butter and it's way better for you too.

doesn't go rancid nearly as quickly and isn't made from artificially saturating or adding starch to an unsaturated fat.

Plus it tastes way batter. Like Surf pup it's butter and olive oil for me.

Butter. And many oils. Olive oil smokes too low, burns too low. Many oils out there, all of them exciting and good to cook with. Hazelnut, Walnut, Avocado, theres a few that can heat better than Olive. We never buy salad dressing, we only make our own using all these oils too.

No contest: butter. It tastes like real food and having it on toast with some honey is living the high life.

Do people still eat margarine or those fake tubs of "I can't believe it's not buttjuice"?

Houlton Farms Dairy butter. There is no substitute. I have tasted what was offered in the dairy case. There is no comparison. Any other brand tastes like soft candle wax. This is THE butter. Houlton is 55 miles away. I work there. I know the farmers who own the dairy operations who supply Houlton Farms. They aren't rich. They are very plain spoken and love what they do. I have met the cows. My agency has cost shared on many conservation practices with them. One just built a large manure storage facility with us, to the tune of a couple hundred thousand. I have come back to the office smelling of cow poo from walking their pastures.

HFD butter is like no other. It is like candy or heroin. If you tried it you would shed tears of joy. And then you would steal it from me.

I'm not the only one who feels this way:

Butter panic

Glad so many prefer Butter. I read way back that a doctor declares, Both are just as bad for you. Or a report from a study. Anyway they said if your going to eat it, Butter is better then Margerine for you. I make Homemade Fudge that many people have tasted and die for and I make it with Real Butter. The recipe calls for One Whole stick of Butter to make one batch. And I make two batches but I only make it around Christmas. Rob, I say to you just "Drink, Eat and be Merry and Enjoy every Day." And smell the roses ever day, even if they do have butter on them. Lolmsp_flapper.gif

Butter for me. Which one is worse for you changes all the time, and all tabloid headlines neglect to mention that you need to eat ten pounds a day for 200 years to experience any adverse effects (I assume).

Plus, when was the last time you heard someone say a guitar "plays like margarine"? :P

Grateful for either.

Taking statins for cholestorol.

I'll buy butter when it's cheap (week after next at Lidl supermarket).

Love my olive oil though - Greek Kalamata is by far the best IMO (cheap this week at Lidl [biggrin]).
