Unless I've misunderstood the post it's a small device, running Android OS, which turns your normal telly into a smart one, meaning Netflix, YouTube et Al become available.

I sort of have something similar. Replaced a very old DVD through which I ran the TV. The new DVD setup allows for wireless connection via my PC modem to the internet, so I can watch all those new fangled thingys like Utub. Not really interesed in most media, including news services, as to me it's generally mindless pap. Would rather read or stretch my meagre ability with my gits.

Farns is the closest.

What it is is the cable tv providers worst nightmare. There are different flavors of them. Apple tv, Linux box, I opted for the android.

You need a decent Internet connection, a bit of a learning curve and then kiss your cable bills goodbye.

While you can get utube and Netflix and all that stuff the main app you load is Kodi.

Kodi gives you access to essentially everything out there including live streaming networks so you can still get cnn and virtually any movie ever made. High def available. Watched Angry Birds movie last night with my kids in 1080p. Watch the first dozen Tyson fights to take me back.

Pretty much anything you want is out there.

The box stores even sell them. What's keeping it legal is you're not file sharing like with a torrent. You're streaming.

I just cut 80 bucks a month off my cable bill. And I can still watch everything I did before. Not only that, every season.

Cable companies better offer Internet because this is the way it's going. I know tons of people who use them.

Cable tv will be following the land line.

Is it a box full of cute teeny tiny multicoloured monkey robots?

If it was I would still want one.

Who wouldn't?

Thanks man. You know it's a little more work than I care to put out for tv but I do ok with tech so I'm not too worried.

The results so far after only 2 days are very impressive.

We cancelled cable TV like 3 years ago now. I have a roku and subscribe to Hulu and Netflix. $20 a month instead of $100. Pretty much everything I would want to watch is included in those 2 services. I can also watch youtube and other free channels. The only thing I miss is live sports. Occasionally I have to rig up my laptop to stream Cubs or Blackhawks games that are on cable stations.

I am not familiar with the Kodi app, i'll have to see if its available for Roku.

We have an Apple TV unit attached to our main TV, but I recently added Amazon FireSticks in two of the bedrooms. Now those TVs are smart too. I think they were only $39 each and they work very well, You can add apps for Netflix, YouTube and many other streaming services - and of course stream Amazon content as well.
