Any other Gibson J29 owners out there? (NGD with pics)

I have had this guitar for a month or so now. I was wanting to get back into the acoustic guitar thing, (I started a duo with the other guitar player from my rock band) so I traded off a Les Paul for this guy: a 2014 J29.

I really love the feel of the neck - it fits my hand better than any other neck I have used on an acoustic. The fretboard width is just right for me, too. I have had a Seagull S6 for many years, and I have never liked the wide fretboard or the shallow neck - it gives me hand cramps after awhile. The J29 doesn't do that to me. It is in near mint shape, and still had the plastic on the pickguard when I picked it up. Original case with all candy as well, which is nice.

J29's don't seem to get a lot of run, and it looks like Gibson discontinued them this year... I guess there was a little too much overlap in the line-up. The tone is nice and balanced, and very loud - even with the .11's the previous owner strung it with. It's one of those guitars that makes me want to play - I find myself sitting to play for 10 minutes, and actually spending 45 (if you know what I mean). The LR Baggs Element might get changed out to something else, but running it through either my old Fishman Loudbox Performer or our Mackie board/QSC K12 setup yielded useable sounds. I would rather mic it live, anyway - but that isn't always feasible. I might try a Fishman Aura pedal... we'll see.

The only modifications I have done are breaking out the drill and installing a strap pin to the neck heel, and changing the truss rod cover to one that has white trim as opposed to plain black.

Anyway, I am really digging this one. Any other J29 owners out there?

Very nice, congrats.

You are right there doesn't seem to be too many J29's around. It does appear they have dropped it from the 2017 range.

At the time Gibson brought these out with the J15 and the J35, the J29 seemed to be the one that was overlooked the most. The price point at the time was very close to a J45. I'd certainly like one to complete my slope shoulder collection!

I know what you mean about the Seagull necks also. For me all my Gibson acoustics have the most comfortable necks I've played.

btw: trim those string ends..you'll have your eye out!

Truss Rod Cover looks better. did the same on my J15. Not sure why Gibson insist on fitting the other type, the black and white looks far better

Cool. H-Town here as well...........go 'Stros! What's your band's name - might come see you guys!

Hey, fellow Houstonian!

I play in a coverband called Feast - we do some 60's - 80's stuff, including a block of Pink Floyd. We don't have any shows booked right now - we are in kind of a dry spell, which is why we are starting up some acoustic duo stuff. Our website is feastexperience.com. Would love to meet ya, Buc!

And YES! GO 'STROS!

Lol - already trimmed, good buddy! Learned my lesson on that one a long time ago! And yes - the plain black truss rod cover just looks wrong, IMO.

I think the price had something to do with them dropping it as well - at that price point, they are in J45 territory - the quintessential slope shoulder.
