'Scales
They've put out cheapies the past few years - LPJ, Melody Maker, CM with that sort of street price... And this one has poplar body (however many pieces) and 'made in USA double slug' pickups, glued neck... so it's not quite the same as a Firebird with neck through, mahogany, mini-HBs etc. OTOH I reckon the 2016 Firebird at $1000 street was probably the most jaw dropping guitar deal I've seen for some time. Hog body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, slim taper. What i wonder is what those double slugs sound like? I dont care for the wine red, but i love the ebony model and if i didnt like the slugs i could always toss in some p90s and experiment. Thats a nice little git! darling67
It's not exactly my cup of tea, but I'd not turn down one of these, if someone offered it to me. http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2016/USA/Vintage-Copper-Firebird-Limited.aspx

Ugly. Like, poop ugly. Copper is a bit of a stretch I think. It felt ok, played alright and I think I could have set it up great, but man, that color would probably start to bug me in like a week. rct
kelly campbell
Good For Gibson..Sounds like they finally are gonna battle the Fender in the lower dollar markets..I think it is a good move for them.
Versatile
If people like it and buy it then.... There is an old adage....you only get what you pay for.... Personally the appeal of the Firebird is the original shape... The 'thru' neck of crafted laminates... The mini humbuckers.... The original banjo tuners.... The association with many top guitarists.... Johnny Winter Stephen Stills Phil Manzanera Brian Jones Ronnie Wood Eric Clapton et many al V

cody78
Good For Gibson..Sounds like they finally are gonna battle the Fender in the lower dollar markets..I think it is a good move for them. Bear in mind, Fender's 'lower dollar market' guitars are Mexican made. Cheapest USA Fenders are normally American Special's at around the £750 mark. Whereas, you can get a great USA made Les Paul or SG faded for £599!

There is one strata of Fender that is less expensive than the Mexican-made ones, the 'Modern Player' line that is manufactured at Fender's factory in China. They are actually very nicely made! To the original topic, and am pleased to see Gibson producing some newer American-made guitars that are a bit more affordable and therefore obtainable to the average wage-earner. 'Scales
Bear in mind, Fender's 'lower dollar market' guitars are Mexican made. Cheapest USA Fenders are normally American Special's at around the £750 mark. Whereas, you can get a great USA made Les Paul or SG faded for £599! It's a bit of a 'double edged sword' for Gibson - one one hand if it's a genuine Gibson then you know it's made in USA for those who view that as critical in a guitar, but on the other that means anything affordable to the masses needs to be stripped back and won't be just like the mainline 'hero' models. Fender on the other hand, you need to look at the serial number to know if it's USA, Mexico, Japan,... So they lose a bit of the 'must be American' vibe, but for the many that don't really care, a Fender Strat is pretty much a Fender Strat (with many calling out their Mexican Strats as personal favourites), and they have opportunities to put guitars in vast numbers of kids hands with the Fender name and logo on them - think of the zillions of Mustangs, Jazzmasters and similar they'd have sold at made in Japan/Mexico prices to alt rock and grunge kids throughout the 90's. Each approach has its strengths and challenges.

Versatile
Purely personal opinion... I have very few 'painted' guitars....certainly no acoustics Preferring a natural or tobacco sunburst... IMO a Firebird looks particularly good in a woody finish With the exception of the popular White... V

cody78
With the exception of the popular White... Interesting how everyone likes different things. I've never been keen on white guitars (except maybe a Gretsch White Falcon), but I love the Firebird in cherry if not in a burst. Mine being a 2016 it's in the only option available this year - vintage burst, which I love too.
