BluesKing777
I have tried a few of these around the place now, but this one spoke to me. Always wanted a 'tux' Gibson, but they are too expensive now. Martin 000-17 Black Smoke - blues guitar special: BluesKing777.

vw1300
Looks good! Where did you get it? I alternate between my Gibson AJ and Martin D Mahogany - playing my Martin for a while makes me appreciate the AJ when I switch back, and vice versa. They really are complimentary. Jesse_Dylan
Looks like trouble!!!!!! Can't get much more blues than that, though, except maybe a Gibson L-1. Hope to hear it soon!

flatbaroque
I've always really liked these black guitars with white pickguards.I know some people don't.But I find them pleasing to the eye, very stylish....this one will sound good too. I see a lot on Japanese guitar sites..both Gibson and Martin.
BluesKing777
Thanks.... Have to work! Did I mention that it has the worst strings I have EVER played? So some small details need to be addressed before the real fun can begin. and a setup after a couple of weeks of testing I have a couple of Fishman soundhole pickups I can use without installing for now, if needed, but I would like to get a Fishy u/s so I can use my Spectrum DI - though which fishy sound image to use would be anyone's guess. (Gibson L-00 image or Martin 000 or....or) And the case has some lead bars in the lining! Hiscox Pro II case for birthday, maybe! Not whining, all good! It was just the best sounding guitar in the shop! B&W or pink. BluesKing777.
blindboygrunt
Congratulations BK Look forward to hearing it Does the fishman aura thing only work with USPickups?
BluesKing777
Congratulations BK Look forward to hearing it Does the fishman aura thing only work with USPickups? The Aura images are designed to get rid of the quack from u/s and make the sound more acousticky realist, but the Spectrum unit is still handy with soundholers with the vol, eq, comp, DI, tuner........just turn the Aura image off. But it can add 'something' to s/h p/u, not sure what. Not getting the screwdriver out for a soundhole installation just today, and a tear and a rip down the side of my new guitar! BluesKing777. BluesKing777
Vids? Time I load a video on my broadband, I will be owner of 2 more guitars probably. So why go through all the pain when Adam P from Acoustic Guitar Magazine and others have pretty well covered it - this shows the 00 model and I have the 000: BluesKing777
Jesse_Dylan
Did I mention that it has the worst strings I have EVER played? Is it the strings it shipped with? If so, Martin Lifespan SP, and I actually agree with you. I don't know if they are the worst strings, but they are absolutely my least favorite. Sound horrendous out of the box, hold that horrendous sound for ages, and even after they're trashed, they still sound terrible.
Jesse_Dylan
Another Martin model trying to be a Gibson? Nope! Trying to emulate the depression-era mail-order catalog guitars is my understanding. My grampa had one--one of the BAD ones, sadly.
BluesKing777
Guitar was on the wall of the shop and the strings are fully worn to bleached in the cowboy chord area and covered in possibly pizza bits or fried chicken and rice on the rest....... Eek, get the antiseptic, Niles! With the Black Smoke finish, very thin, it reminds me of a Collings 00 size guitar from a few years back with the similar finish but that they called "dog hair finish". Which caught my fancy at the time, because I live in a huge pile of Labrador hair. People next door have 3 Labs, don't see them much! The Waterloo has a similar finish...anyway, it lets the guitar breathe and resonate a lot...sounds great. BluesKing777.
jdd707
I played one recently and was quite impressed with the tone and playability. Love the black ones! Congrats!
BluesKing777
Thanks JDD707! It does have great tone, for sure, and as it gets played more, I think it may get really mellowed 000-18-ish. A friend came past after going to my luthier for guitar repairs, and has scurried off home with a bypass to the music shop to buy a Boss VE-8 vocal/guitar gadget after playing my new guitar with Fishman Neo-D soundhole pickup screwed in and plugged to the Boss. Sounds cool electrified, not my perfect preferred sound but we are away! Nice for vocal harmony gadget backup... Bad news for him is I am fairly sure that I bought the only Boss VE-8 gadget in the country! [unsure] BluesKing777.
BluesKing777
I put my Fishman Neo-D Humbucker on the 000-17 to try it out - pretty good really. Passive pickup, so no batteries to worry about, not a pure acoustic sound by any means but we are electrified! Looks good too! I am agonizing over getting an undersaddle Fishman put in - more convenient for my Fishman Aura box and also better for my Humidipaks, which don't really fit in the soundhole as well as the pickup..... Soundhole pickup is pretty good in my Boss VE-8 vocal gadget with a splash of reverb, delay.... Excuse for a photo: BluesKing777.
