daveinspain
Case Candy is all the stuff that comes with your guitar when you buy it new. Any thing else that adorned the guitar while on display at the music store, like the tags that hang from the guitar, price or tags from the factory with details about the guitar. Also anything the music store may at to the guitar to try and make it stand out or be more attractive to the eye of the potential buyer... IF you buy your guitar direct from the factory it would be everything you find inside the case when you open it for the first time as in guarantee card, owners manual, strings, guitar cord and strap if it comes with them. Guitar cord and strap that didn't come with the guitar but is correct for the date the sale was made could also be considered case candy. In other words any thing that originally came with the guitar or was used to hype it at the time of sale.... just keep in mind its the guitar and case that holds the most value at resale addition case candy may make a difference if a buyer is trying to decide bewteen two very similar guitars... The more candy the sweeter it is!!!
Geetar_Axl
Do you mean you get a free pack of strings?
TheLiveSoundGuy
Dealers seldom offer, and they don't like to, but I always demand and receive a new set of strings (my brand choice) whenever I purchase a new guitar. My point is I'm buying a NEW guitar. Why would I want old dead strings? That's like buying a new car with tires that have 30,000 miles on them. I don't think so. MikeRom
Case candy is usually a cleaning cloth (garbage), nut wrench, picks and a 10' cord. Personally, I'd rather have a new set of strings.
smurf77
Anyone know what comes with the LP Standard? All I got was instructions on how to set the combination lock and 2 free sets of strings. I suppose I could go back in the shop and get the rest....I'm a whizz at complaining and getting what I want and a bit extra....lol.
Thundergod
Yes, usually the cord is sh*t and the strap too... if you buy a 3K guitar you dont want to plug it with a $2 cord? or use a cheap strap with it... so all that stuff is useless and i dont care much about it, las time i bought a fender it came with a cord and a strap which i gave to the first person that walked into the studio that night... tha guy couldnt believe it and ended up spending a lot of money in my studio that month because of that! ...so the moral of this story is you may not care much about case candy but... Gibson CS
Smurf... My LP came with a pickguard in the case, not on the guitar. A thingy for the combination lock A check list that quality control filled out. A key for the truss rod...and an info booklet.
lpplayer
My Gibbo came with the hang tag, warranty brochure, case lock instructions, unattached pickguard in a plastic bag, truss rod tool, and a bag of that silicate stuff or whatever it is. All of it is still kept in the case for posterity. No cord, packs of strings or strap...a Gibson strap would have been nice. But I'm not complainin. Raptor
Lpplayer gets the cigar for what should come with a normal Gibson USA LP as case candy. The CS guitars and reissues get more stuff.
TheLiveSoundGuy
{snip}and a bag of that silicate stuff or whatever it is. That "silica stuff" is actually to absorb excess moisture. You might want to get rid of that. or put it in a baggie so it doesn't pull the moisture out of the instrument. It shouldn't, but you don't really need it for anything.
