Jimmy Fallon. Miley Cyrus. Gibson. Bob Dylan. One video

I understand the way she broke out from being a little girl act, by acting as trashy as possible in the tradition established by Britney and others before her. And I understand, from this and a couple of other videos I've seen, that she can sing material more substantive than the shiny pop stuff that is her norm. But I've heard Odetta sing this arrangement of this song, and so I also understand that this performance was pedestrian by comparison. Miley Cyrus is another star we'd have never heard of if it weren't for the nepotism that is so prevalent in the entertainment industry.

Sorry for the negativity, but I can go out next weekend and easily find a singer in a bar somewhere who is better, and will go back to her day job on Monday. You want to hear a child star turned pop diva who can really sing when she gets ahold of good material? I'd pick Christina Aquillera.

I agree with you Themis Sal. Never thought I would say it, but here she is great. I especially like her version of Joline and she sure does have a special voice. Shame she doesn't do this all the time instead of her pop garbage...but then I guess she makes more money from that. Nice to see her not looking like a pole dancer too [biggrin] She is actually a very attractive girl when dressed normally.

I have a very negative opinion of her. She's obviously talented and makes a lot of money, but she's also who she is. Beyond that, there are lots of young women with great voices we will never hear who sing in places none of us will ever go to. If it wasn't for her creep father and her literally naked videos and vulgar performances, she'd be another gal with a great voice that we didn't know about. If she wasn't outrageous sexually, she'd be unknown. Also, her father is a real butt-hole. Look at the layout of pictures he did with her when she was 14. He's sick. For Christ's sake, that's his daughter he's posing with. Maybe that's part of her problem......... I wish her no ill will. I hope she gets the chance to mature and become a great woman.

When my daughter was pre -17 (she's 22 now), I took her to see Miley Cyrus in concert about 8 times. (This was in the Disney era). She was super-talented then and that kind of talent doesn't just go away when she left Disney. Needless to say, the concerts were good times for my daughter to be with me and me to be with her. I was one of the very few fathers ever with their daughters at those concerts while tons of mothers at the concerts would always complement me. My daughter would always reply that me her father was a musician and because of that recognized Miley's talents. Which was true. So no matter what...Miley will always be okay in my book.

That was absolutely superb. She really does have a terrific voice and great technique. She can really mix her voice up and deliver a strong, rich tone, just lovelly.

And isnt it nice to see her with some clothes on and looking like a woman finally, i hope she continues in this direction, it totally fits her, classy. Reckon Billy Ray would be proud.

Of course, having an SJ on rhythm doesnt do any harm.

Ponk, I respect your opinion, but disagree. Yes she rose from the nepotism, but she would have anyway. She has a very special voice. Putting aside her pop crap and trashy antics, listen:

she's always been a talented kid and now a talented woman,

When she turned to "shock factor" instead of just sticking with her talent and raw abilities, ... nope... no thanks...

(that comment "I want to step in front of a bus when I hear her" cracked me up... [thumbup] )

The first time I saw her was on the Backyard sessions a couple of months ago singing Jolene . I just thought this was a cover version like any other but with a great singer, oh yes! It was only later I discovered who she was.

Great version of Baby I'm in the Mood thanks for the link Sal. It's not really a song you would expect Dylan to write but I guess it shows the talent of the man. There's a good version by Dion as well.

I have to say that I have never cared for her and her actions and that up until that video have never heard her sing well. Having said that I also agree that there is a lot more talented people out there who will indeed never be heard of on a large scale but carry themselves with a lot more dignity and class, I will stick with them.

Thanks for posting that, Sal. That's a cool cover of an old song and Miley clearly has unquestionable talent. I'm becoming a fan of her as a musician and as a person. I like her because she marches to the beat of her own drum. She is a smart young lady and knows exactly what she is doing. I don't see her antics as being any more outrageous than how a lot us behaved when we were her age 30, or 40, or 50 years ago. As Pete Townshend says, I hope I die before I get old.
