Nobody Knows My Trouble

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Been away from the forum for too long...been a bit pre-occupied by some stuff going on in my life. I've been missing all the great music here...

Anyway, here is a cover of a Ryan Bingham tune I did. I've been listening to him a lot recently--he's a great songwriter with such an intoxicating voice.

And here is Ryan's incredible rendition for those of you unfamiliar...

As always I appreciate the listen and the comments. Thanks!

Great job! Love Ryan! I know the full story behind that song and it is sooo sad. Ryan has proven to be quite resilient and the guitar has probably helped to keep him out of the abyss.

Thanks Keith and Kelly. I really appreciate it.

Guitar Fundi, , you got to tell me that story... I've only started listening to him like a month ago. I'm really enjoying listening to his stuff now...but I don't know enough about him!

Sweet, Avery! Like I have said before about your songs, they all flow so efforlessly and smoth. This one is no exception. Both playing and singing is superb and the guitar sounds brilliant too.

I have been listening to Ryan Bingham some before. I have two of his albums which I like a lot. This song was, however, new to me. A real good one. I think I read somewhere that he was in a difficult place when younger and that music kind of pulled him out of it.

I thought you did real well delivering it your way Avery. This guy (never heaard of him, buts normal for me) has a real whisky & marlboro voice but i enjoyed your softer delivery of the message. And that J-15 just shines so nicely when you pick it, very articulate but also soulful. (although must admit i also like the sound of his maple Guild, very sweet).

Post more.

Thanks a bunch, guys, I appreciate it!

DHanners...that is so cool that you know his bass player.

I find one of the key things for me in getting a good sound is having long nails that are in good shape. I tried recording this one last week and my nails were too short...didn't get the sound I wanted. Right now I look like a homeless guy with my nails...

Buc, I just use my iphone 6s with a little zoom iq 6 mic plugged into the lightning port. Then I just put it in imovie and hit the enhance button...makes the color and the sound a little better.

Doing this kind of "Travis-Picking" isn't all that hard to learn. It's just about building muscle memory and repeating basic picking patterns over and over and over. Actually, I found it kind of boring when I started out! The basic patterns aren't all that melodic. Learning songs like "The Boxer" really helped me out...and you can apply those basic patterns to a lot of songs. That's how I did this one.

EA, I love his maple guild too. This song had me looking at guilds on the internet for a week. He also sounds great on a J-45.

Enjoyed your version! Lately, I've been exploring Ryan Bingham's music and have found it to be quite impressive. Also, interesting how, where many singer-songwriters seem to be in the sphere of influence of the early or middle years Bob Dylan, Ryan Bingham is in the sphere of influence of the later stage Bob Dylan...but, yet he's a youngun, which makes his music all that much more interesting. Good stuff by him as well as you.

Thanks, Jazzman Jeff.

Interesting to hear the Dylan connection.
