LP Elagant

Hi,

Is the top side of the head stock on this LP Elegant correct? The diamond looks too small. The GIBSON logo also looks very slim...

Yeah, hmmm...most of the closeups are too blurry to really make out anything, I did notice how the trusscover was conveniently cut off so you couldn't see the 2 screws on the bottom if it IS a fake, I dunno, it could be a one-off, nice flame on the top though...and I just noticed the binding does overlay the frets on the edge like it's supposed to.

I have to say it's nice! Just seems a little suspect. If I was selling a 4K guitar i'd have better photos than that. Other elegants I have seen dont seem to have the diamond.

Any elegant owners out there able to throw some light on this?

Elegants do not come with the split diamond, but he does say it is a one off custom order, and I have seen at least one Elegant custom order that had an abalone split diamond. It has seen a lot of use, or hasn't been cleaned in ages, look at the patina on the tuner buttons and tailpiece. The serial number is difficult to read, but it looks like it might be an 02. I agree the pictures are pretty bad quality. Your best bet would be to get the serial number and then call or e-mail Gibson to confirm it. For the shape that the hardware is in, I think that the price is a bit too high. Also it looks like there might be a dent or nick on the neck when you look at the picture of the headstock over the case. The Elegant normally has a natural or light finish back, for custom orders they often spray the back with a coat of the top colour, like mine has the dark blue back. If you look at the two pictures of the back of the neck, one looks light-medium brown (which would be normal on an Elegant), in the other, the back is clearly cherry red. The Elegant was a quilt top until about 2003 or so, and then was available in either flame top or quilt top for the last couple of years, but again, if it is a custom order..... Again, get the serial number and ask Gibson about it.
