Hamer Sunburst 1978. Owned by ex member of Jethro Tull. Got the original receipt etc. Almost mint. £900! Bargain. Easily as good as Gibson Custom shop. Note the one piece top. Your Hamer guitar is by far one of the most incredible sunburst guitar I have ever (and I mean EVER) seen. What a fantastic exhibit of what a sunburst should look like. Stunning!!! charlie brown Posted December 1, 2016 Share Posted December 1, 2016 Most of my guitars have ended up being great "bang for the buck" as they were purchased decades ago, when prices (even for Gibson's) were a lot more "reasonable!" But, my more recent "best value/cost" Gibson, is my '61 SG Satin Finish Re-issue, which was purchased at the end of 2012 and at the end of the year, end of that "Finish" re-issue "blow out" price! It's also the SG I play the most! The more recent, and Amazing "bang for the buck" guitar I own, would have to be my Squier Bass VI, purchased this past summer. I payed £400 about ten years ago (I can't attach a picture as I don't know how to do it) Verithins are like an ES330 or an Epiphone Casino only thinner and lighter. I guess if I had to pick it would be my L5 CES which I somehow managed to get £2800 cheaper from a European seller than here in England. That was a score IMO and certainly the biggest saving I've ever had on any instrument! This picture was taken on the day it arrived still with tags on. First one that comes to mind would be my first good guitar, a Westbury Standard, I bought at a yard sale for $175 with a hardshell case. Came stock with DiMarzio PAF neck and Super Distortion bridge pickups, full size pots, really nice build quality, decent tuners, and low fast action. I used it for twenty plus years with no backup. It fares quite well in a head-to-head with his 2013 Gibson LP Trad. No joke...and at a fifth the cost! I'm becoming an Epi fan... Others would know...but I've found that Korean/Chinese instruments seem to all share very similar qualities as Epi (e.g., respectable tone, great playability, nicely put together, attractive and "great value" for beginners/intermediates (and pros willing to upgrade hardware where felt needed to suite taste))...with many brands sharing the exact same factory. I still love and prefer my Gibsons (there's magic in them)...but for the money....Asian brands are the near-real-deal right out of the box, even better if purchased used.
