Gibson X-plorer Pro and Explorer 76 reissue

The current model explorer pro is a bit smaller, but has the same pickups and hardware. Also, it has a bound top and neck. Some of them have maple tops. Here's a pic for size comparison, the pro is on the bottom. Enjoy your new purchase :)

Honsetly, I was looking for a GIBSON EXPLORER EB/CH. And since it was the only guitar in a store, I got it, because I liked the way it sounded. Being an SG owner I can admit I often use a Rat with it as a booster. But my Pro doesn't need any boosters. I mean that even with a booster my SG doesn't sound that agrresive, besides the Pro isn't noisy.

Still what bothers me is that I paid as much as if it were a Gibson Explorer. On the other hand, my ebony colored Pro costs nearly as much as Gibson Explorer ($1250), while the other Pros are less ($1000-$1150). How so? Did I overpaid just for the colour or for the improved sound?

Thanks MadeInUSA, I love all my children equally (some mroe equally than others, right? :))

Mishau, I can't honestly speculate as to what the pricing structure might be like in Russia. There's all sorts of considerations such as supply/demand, availability, distribution channels, taxes, and such that might affect the price that I have no way of knowing. Here in the US, an explorer pro usually costs the same as a standard explorer. I think they're great guitars. A little smaller and lighter, which on some days I prefer to the full size and some days I don't.

Keep in mind, the electronics are identical, as are the body woods. There's a little less wood on the pro, but through an amplifier, the differences are not great if even noticeable. Aesthetically, you're aware of the differences. The binding is a ncie classy touch that does mean increased production labor. Regardless of which explorer you ended up with, it would have sounded aggressive and scooped. That's jsut the nature of the pickups. I think there's a Pro model with a flame top but a satin finish. Perhaps that's less desireable in your part of the world and as such commands a lower price? As far as what you paid, you paid the store's price. Another store may have charged a different price. If you're comparing prices at different stores, you should be looking at the same models otherwise you could draw some funny conclusions.

In any event, congratulations. It's a sweet guitar and a joy to play.

Thank you gentlemen for your info and support. I don't regrett at all. Actually, the price I've paid for this guitar is the cheapst around here; plus I could check that guitar in the shop into a Marshall DSL100 full stack on full volumes (we needed to go to far away from the cabs to save our ears). Now the more I play my Explorer Pro the more I understand I should have bought it since the very beginning. (I have an SG Standrad and a Hamer Diablo 2).

The thing that astonished me most was the way my Egnater IE4 sounded with this guitar. In loads of reviews they complained it was not like that heavey sounding preamp. The Explorer does all the job (for me).

I recorded a sample:

Hi mishau, i'm the owner of the same guitar and i can tell you why do you have paid more. The yellow and the red Xplorer Pro are "Guitar Of The Week" xplorer pros, and ours not. So, the guitar of the week costs less than 1000$, around 800-900$ 'cuz their quality is worse. I've paid 1800€ for my Xplorer Pro Ebony, so, u can be sure that the quality of our guitar is longer better =D>

KEEP ROCKING!!
