Gibson Model Numbers

Hello All. For Christmas, I purchased a Gibson Limited Edition ES-335 Gold Top. The model number on the box reads: GIBESDP16GTNH1. I have tried to decipher the model number, but I have no idea what DP stands for. Note, this guitar has a block inlay fretboard. I appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you. ~ Rob

GIB = Gibson

ES = Electric Spanish

DP = ???

16 = 2016

GT = Gold Top

NH = Nickel Hardware

Congrats on your new 335 GT. . B)

Actually, GIB is not part of the model number. You can verify this by Googling it both ways.

The DP, TD and DT are always a problem. Sometimes DP means Dot markers, Plain/Painted top, but not in this case because yours has small block markers, right? It might run along the lines of TD which is Thinline Dual pickups - so possibly DP might be Dual Pickups . . . which just my guess.

And I think that final "1" is for right handed. (2=left handed).

ES = Electric Spanish series

DP = Dual Pickups

16 = 2016

GT = Gold Top

NH = Nickel Hardware

1 = Right handed
