Help with serial number

Recommended Posts

My apologies if this isn't the correct subforum for this question. I've purchased a new-old-stock Gibson Memphis 1959 ES-335 VOS from an authorized dealer. I'm trying to nail down the production year, but the serial number doesn't seem to conform to any of the information I can find online, including the Gibson serial number page. The serial number on the guitar (internal sticker) is A06271. This is the closest information I could find:

Historic ES MODELS (since 1995):

(A or B)-MYRRR

M is the model year being reissued

Y is the production year

RRR indicates the guitar's place in the sequence of Historic ES production for that year.

Reissue model codes:

2= ES-295

3= 1963 ES-335 (block inlays)

4= ES-330

5= ES-345

9 with an "A" prefix = 1959 ES-335 (dot inlays)

9 with a "B" prefix= ES-355

The 0 for the model number doesn't match anything here, and I'm fairly certain it's not a 2006 or 2016 guitar so that doesn't seem to fit either. Are there certain runs with non-standard serial numbers? I'd appreciate any information anyone can share. Thanks.
