H
Hi all, I've searched as best I can on the web but can't seem to find any details on the factory specifications for my 2004 Hummingbird. I dropped the string gauge from medium to lights when I bought it and now I'd like to know whether it needs much of a set-up. My local guitar tech shop wants me to to pay for the privelege of assessing it for a set-up. Can anyone help me with the specs or a link to where I can find these please? Thanks, H
guitarstrummer
What type of specs are you looking for? If you're looking for string height, I believe this is what comes from the factory (last I checked). 1st Fret treble side: 1/64" 1st Fret bass side: 2/64" 12th Fret treble side: 5/64" 12th Fret bass side: 7/64" Neck relief between 0.007 and 0.
H
Thanks Mike, this is what I was looking for. Where did you get the information?
guitarstrummer
I had it in my notes from one of the past Gibson Homecoming clinics.
albertjohn
Hey H. I'm good friends with Robbie Gladwell (aka Dr Robert) who has a workshop (Dr Robert's Guitar Surgery) in Bulmer just south of Sudbury. If you ever need any work done give him a call. He knows everything about anything guitar related it seems. He'll do a great setup for you. He's also a huge Gibson fan. 01787 373706
guitarstrummer
You might also keep in mind that the string height is intentionally set a little high from the factory. But those specs will give you a starting point.
H
Thanks again Mike, I knew I'd get the job done in the forum :) I just wonder why these specs are not published or if they are, why they're not easier to find :s
guitarstrummer
I just checked the main Gibson website and found this link: http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Support/TechSupport/Repair%20Columns/Basic-Guitar-Setup/ It was under the 24/7 Customer Support/Tech Support/Repair Columns/Basic Guitar Set Up. The specs in this link do match the specs I gave you.
H
Hi AlbertJohn, thanks for that - a personal recommendation is a valuable thing :) I'd been chatting to the tech at Trevor Durrant Guitars in Colchester and wasn't hugely impressed... H
I see my mistake now, Mike. I was expecting something peculiar to the Hummingbird instead of a generic 'Gibson acoustics' specification...
