Mine:

The fat, warm sound that goes on forever

The piercing scream that can cut through your soul

The smooth groove that can comfort your soul

The comfort of an old friend that you know will deliver every time

The looks that please at every glance

To name a few......................................let's hear yours!

Ever since I had my first Led Zeppelin poster, with Pagey playing his, I've been pining for one since then about...oh...37 years now? And while the Epiphone has filled that void nicely, I now have the Goldtop, which I've wanted since I saw a picture of Duane Allman playing one, and just the tone, it's something I've always tried to copy with other guitars that didn't even come close...I think Jimmy Page is the singular reason I picked up a guitar all those years ago, so it's a combination of the Les Paul mystique, and the fact that a lot of my heroes play(ed) one.

I remember when I was about 11, listening to my KISS Alive II album. In thoses days we, looked at all the pictures and read all the writing on all sides of ana album! I distinctly remember reading something to the effect of "KISS uses Gibson guitars and Pearl drums because they only want the best." That was all needed to know about guitars :-) I later learned that Aces guitar was called a Les Paul. I've had a soft spot in my heart for these guitars ever since.

The chunky tone I can't get from other guitars, they are comfortable, they play well, the headstock shape, the single cut shape, the red transparent finish on the back of the mahogany body and neck (at least on mine), the different flame tops and plain tops, etc.. Whats there not to like about a Les Paul? :) The looks alone makes you wanna rock one.... eusa_drool.gif

I posted this before, but I was never really into lp's. I appreciated the history and who used them, but I was more of a EVH inspired, "super strat" guy. Then I bought an Explorer 'cuz I liked the look of the guitar. I started to like the tone of the Explorer a lot. My neighbor said "if you like the Explorer, try my LP" and he loaned me his '84 lp standard w/ EMG's for a week! I was absolutely floored by the tone. I instantly bought one online, sight unseen. It was an '02 LP Standard Raw Power. I thought it was going to be a nice shiny clear coat but it was totally satin like a special faded or something. Let me tell you, the tone of the Raw Power can not be beat. As the name implies, it is a Les Paul Standard in the raw.

I never liked the thickenss of the body on the LP's though. I bought my SG so I could have a more comfortable guitar to play. Eventually, I discovered the '87-'89 "lite" models with the thinner body and I was won over. I guess you could say I found my perfect guitar.

I feel fortunate to have two of these somewhat rare LP Custom's in black and cherryburst, as the majority of them are "Sunset Mist" which is basicly a hideous metallic pink. I'm also stoked to have the one Studio model with an even more rare factory installed Floyd Rose tremelo.

Now I appreciate everything about Les Pauls: The look, the history, the craftsmanship and most importantly, the tone.
