Raptor
Well there are quite a few out there in that range. A lot is going to depend on your personal tastes. Epiphones are good guitars, you could get one of the foreign made Strats or Teles (I don't know the price cut-off between the MIM and MIJ Fenders). Godin makes some nice guitars with mahogany bodies and maple tops with 24 3/4 inch scale. I have a couple of Godins including a gold finish LG with Duncan P-90s in it. I think a couple of the PRS SE models might fit in there. Washburn, Peavey, Ibanez should all have guitars in that range. I am not sure of the prices, but a Melody Maker might fit. Even Daisy Rock makes some decent guitars. I checked them out at a show, and there were a couple of them that I tried that were really nice, and they have some cool sparkle finishes. Of course you can always go used. Even though this is a Gibson site, and a lot of people really are hardcore Gibsonites, there are a lot of great guitars made by other companies. What should really narrow your choices down are your playing preferences i.e. scale length, fret access, pickups, and neck size. The name on the headstock means nothing if you can't play the guitar because the neck is too thin, or if you hate the guitar, or if you have to spend another $500 to make it sound the way you want. Gibson CS
Dont yell at me... Save the money and get what you want...not what you can afford. It wont take long, and in the end youll be far more pleased with your purchase.
MikeRom
I tell you what, that Epiphone Ultra II looks like a really cool guitar. The pickup at the end of the fret board for an acoustic sound that you can blend in or switch to - genious.
Thundergod
I´ll stick with the dual pickup melody maker, a mexican telecaster, or a p90 PRS SE, as you already have a les paul (humbucker-humbucker), maybe you wuold like to have a different sounding guitar. Maybe it is just me (i know its just me) but since i got my gibson les paul, i no longer use my other humbucker-humbucker guitars... they dont even come out of their cases (i´m selling some of them, hopoing they will find a nice home when they care for them propperly), so i´m looking to buy a melody maker, and/or either a tele or a sg with p90s. I really dont care much about PRS but their soapbar SE looks and sounds quite nice.
Tim Plains
Dont yell at me...Save the money and get what you want...not what you can afford. High(er) end guitars aren't for everybody, but if you don't want any guitars in that $500 price range, don't buy any. You might end up selling your cheap-o guitar sooner or later and lose most of your money on it. You could always take your old man's $500, use it as a down payment and then finance the rest; however, if you don't want an expensive guitar and $500 is your maximum limit, Mexican Fender Strats are in that price range.
