My impressions are that this is one helluva guitar. The single coil in it sounds amazing clean or distorted. I like it enough that I just ordered a 2 pickup version called the Westbury from Alto Music. I am not sure why but the Westbury was only $399 new.

[thumbup] Hell yeah! Wait a minute - only $399 for the Westbury? Gotta go [drool] Thanks for the heads up [drool]

Guitar Center has these as their deal of the day today except in blue. I finally pulled the trigger. Thank you Rev for posting about the coupon as well as about the guitar, I will use the coupon to get a free case for my new guitar.

Man that's a beauty. Love the color. Congratulations!

Okay I ordered it today so it's not here yet but Musicians Friend had them under their Stupid Deal pf the Day sale for $499 (normal price $899) so I jumped on it. Here's a photo I borrowed off the internet.

Here's a quick YouTube video:

And here's the specs:

The Jamesport is a 21st-century update of the Supro electric solid-body guitar. The elegant comfort of the 1960’s-era beveled-edge Ozark body shape and the mighty sound of the original field-coil pickup have been enhanced with an ultra-fast satin neck, Tune-o-matic bridge and updated wave tailpiece. The result is a modern player’s instrument with old-school style and authentic Supro tone.

The unique, Gold Foil pickup found in the Supro Jamesport is faithful reproduction of the original magnetics developed for Valco by Ralph Keller in the early 1950s. These pickups, which gave voice to the vintage Chicago-made Supro guitars, have a massive, broadband sound with remarkably low noise for a single-coil design. The humbucker-sized version of the Supro Gold Foil pickup used in the Jamesport is slightly overwound and located right at the harmonic “sweet spot”, as seen on the original Supro Ozark.

The time-tested tone wood recipe of an alder body paired with a 25.5 in.-scale maple neck and rosewood fretboard combine with the Jamesport’s vintage-correct pickup to produce an exceptionally dynamic playing experience. Blending vintage American tone with refined set-neck design, the Supro Jamesport is intended for the professional musician who needs an ergonomic and versatile guitar capable of handling most genres of music with authority. While the Jamesport is a single-pickup guitar, it can cover a wide range of tones from twang to blues, funk, rock and jazz by manipulating the on-board tone control.

The Jamesport guitar and its relatives in the Island Series represent the rebirth of the Supro brand as a stringed instrument manufacturer. The Supro Island Series of guitars was designed by David Koltai and Glenn Sweetwood, with technical assistance from master designer Trevor Wilkinson and vintage pickup expert Ken Calvet.

This should be delivered Thursday so I'll post more photos when she arrives. This is my first Supro guitar - should be a real nice pairing with my Supro Thunderbolt amp I bought a couple years back. I'm excited :) :o

I have never ordered an instrument through mail or internet or anything. I have a fear factor about the one they send me not being the guitar that I played when I tried one. Is there any recourse if you just want to try a different one?

I know it's a personal hangup, but an honest question.

I understand what you're saying but if you have been able to try one out locally already you should be able to relax & feel pretty darn confident the one you order is going to be the same guitar you tried out in a store.

I have purchased quite a number of guitars online without concern. I use well known large retailers that stand behind their gear - I think only twice in the past 5-6 years have I had to return a guitar because of damage received in shipping. I returned those & the retailer happily sent me a replacement.

I love buying online because it saves me a 6% sales tax which can add up when you're buying expensive guitars & they always have free shipping. There are definite financial advantages & savings for me to purchase online.

Regarding this specific purchase - it was a Musicians Friend Stupid Deal of the Day and for $400 off their normal price - it was a no brainer purchase for me. There are many trusted and well reviewed online dealers such as Musicians Friend, Sam Ash, Sweetwater, American Musical, etc etc etc and you can relax when you order from them. :)

Ok Rev, if you want to get one of the Westbury models, Alto Music is running a Black Friday deal for $349. I got mine from them yesterday. I have gotten a Blackstar HT-60 and a Marshall DSL100 from them in the past so I can vouch for them. Decent service every time and they are also giving a 15% back gift certificate.

OK, Rev, if you want to save $200, you bought yours at Musicians Friend I believe. If so, contact them ASAP on their price guarantee because Alto Music just dropped the price of the Jamesports down to 299. The policy is it has to be in the same color and the same model. I just got $200 back on my Jamesport knocking it down to $299. Anyone else that bought one of these Jamesports from Guitar Center or Musicians Friend, do the same!!!

Wow! That was a killer deal! THANK YOU SIR!!!!!! [thumbup] [thumbup] [thumbup]

If you want to go all out and add the three pickup Island series guitar, Sam Ash has the Hampton in ocean blue today for $399. I think I am going to pass on that one.

I saw that too but I'm done buying Supro guitars - I love the two I have & that's sufficient for me to play with.

I'm thinking of expanding out & picking up a PRS - find me one of those for $399 [biggrin]
