Liystalander
Does anyone know of some decent video of the Dark Fire, one that covers the back of the body and neck, as well as basic functions, and sounds. Possibly a review? I have scoured the deepest depths of google, gibson, and harmony central, and have come up empty handed, except for a few lo res vids, vids en-espanol, and a bunch of useless gibson pr/style shots. Maybe one of you lucky dark fire owners could make a video. [Also, MCK or elantec, could we see some pics/vids of the Dark Fire with the speed knobs?] Ignore this-- Pics located here: http://forums.gibson.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=12772 Thanks everyone! I truly believe DF should have come this way from the shop. Now its happy.
Liystalander
Yeah, it looks really good! I just wish the knobs were labeled like the top hats. I always forget which one's which, no matter how long I have owned a guitar. Still, it seems nearly impossible to put a label on the speed knobs. I guess it just comes with the territory... MCK
You could probably have some good quality stickers made with transparent background and stick them on the side of the speed knobs where only you would see the small black font writing. Not a big deal.
Liystalander
Could someone please post some decent pictures of the back, neck and back of neck of the Dark Fire? Also the sides? I would really appreciate it :- Thanks!
elantric
Toni DaRosa of Tronical - Tuning Demonstration Techware Labs Distinctive Guitar - function description. Winter NAMM 2009 - Gibson product specialist Aljon Go Dark Fire Demonstration http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwA-2isUcTI Chameleon Tone Rundown 8:48 (In Italian) with a perfectly functioning Dark Fire Its not Gloss , its more like "orange peel" - and this "laborless" paint job is what allows all the Tronical / Echo Audio bits to be part of the package. There is a benefit that the Dark Fire's thin paint job on the sides , neck, and back does promote sustain. Its definitely NOT a thick hi gloss polyester finish - Many of those polyester finishes on under $1000 Epiphones, Ibanez, etc. - simply choke the natural resonance of the tone woods. The Dark Fire's back and sides may be underwhelming visually - but it is musically correct, and allows the best possible tone, sustain, and dynamic range - which on a solid body guitar even untrained ears can "feel" and "hear" the difference. The Dark Fire sounds wonderful!
Liystalander
Thanks for the pics! I really wish Gibson had some on their site, as the finish on the back isn't what one would necessarily expect. Looks pretty, though.
boardusmcer
i think i see a few buckle scratches on your back already elantric, mine was starting to develop a few before i shipped it back for RMA. What do you estimate the cost to fix those to be? It should be cheaper because of the finish, correct? Thanks
elantric
i think i see a few buckle scratches on your back already elantric The Dark Fire finish is easily scratched - but I dont care - its my essential tool at gigs! If you want a display case heirloom - buy gold coins.

Mine is also developing some fine "character marks" - as my Mom would say " yea - some character put them there!" ME!
boardusmcer
ha, do you think gibson would be able to fix them? They aren't really on a finish, more into the wood it seems (at least on mine it looks that way) not sure how expensive it'll be, but if they can't fix them period, I'll probably stop wearing the belt. I'd rather not wear pants than do damage i can't "undo"

elantric
Gibson actually did repair some dings I had on the back of mine but these were due to a loose Volume knob rolling around inside the guitar case during initial pre-delivery shipping. There are many tricks to Guitar repair, I think they use localized steam to expand the wood that was dinged, and carefully touched up the paint. It looked flawless when it was returned to me after being repaired last month
boardusmcer
... you know what i mean.... i don't want to damage the guitar i just broke the bank for unless it can be fixed rather inexpensively after a while. especially considering the rarity and value of the guitar. Gosh though, that sentence is so easy to take out of context. :D

MI_Canuck
that is a sweet case... i love the classic pink lined brown Gibson cases (i have an old one for my '98 SG Standard).... is that a Gibson you have? (obviously it's a case you bought instead of messing up the white DF case...) cheers
elantric
I got this one: http://www.music123.com/Gator-GW-LPS-Traditional-LP-Guitar-Case-545852-i1152380.Music123 Its an affordable clone of the 1959 Faultless "California Girl" case that shipped with 1959 Les Paul Standards. I carefully stored the White Factory case inside the Black Dark Fire Cardboard box - and they never leave the house. Meanwhile I gig 3 times a week with my Dark Fire here on the Central California coast, and use this brown case to absorb the typical bumps and protect my Dark Fire. It works well for me. CharlieP
Awe come on! Don't tell me you actually play that DF instead of saving it for your estate riches. It's not going to gain any value being played. Who's going to profit from it when your dead and gone?
boardusmcer
i really like the bottom right 1970's style, black outside/red inside. didn't see it for sale on music123 or musiciansfriend. know where else i might be able to get one for about the same price as yours?
