NGD...a great deal from a fellow forumer!

Hi all,

I had to share this beauty with you...the actual NGD was Saturday, but I’ve been too busy playing to get online to talk about it!

This peachy flier is my new 2005 Custom Shop Hummingbird 12 string. This deal has been in the offing with fellow forumer JohnT for around a year, and John was exceptionally patient with me as I got the money together to make the dream a reality.

My partner Amy and I embarked on an exciting road trip on Saturday from our West Dorset home all the way to Kent to meet up with John, his lovely wife Sharon and their three magnificent hounds, and to collect the guitar...the 12er Bird is everything I’d hoped for and more, it sounds gigantic and luxuriant, and the difference between it and the low-end 12s I’ve owned in the past is astonishing.

I literally can’t put it down-so much so that I received a call from our local council this morning to let me know that our neighbours had registered a complaint of “anti social guitar playing” in the early hours of Sunday morning...clearly at some point I stopped looking at the clock 😂

Anyway, here she is in all her glory. I’ll do some recording in the coming weeks (if my neighbours don’t lynch me first!) and share it here, as she sounds even better than she looks.

Congrats! Will this be your Crown Jewel ? Description sounds like it could be.

Here's a little 'Sorry" apology gift you could have Amazon deliver to the door of each of your neighbors:

Anti social guitar players unite ! Then it would just be social guitar playing, I guess.

Hope John is well. . . he knows a little about 12 strings, if I recall.

Good luck with the new Bird12- any thoughts on strings? Maybe you can try set of Martin Titanium’s at $80 a pop ; ).

Thanks for fixing the link, Cougar!

Strings wise I’m in the dark really with 12ers, I’ve just put a set of Ernie Ball Earthwoods on it that John put in the case for me, and they sound great...I’ll experiment in time and report back.

It’s a stunner of a guitar, both in tone and looks. The photo doesn’t really do justice to the full beauty of it...I’ve lusted after a Gibson 12er for a very long time.

This is certainly the crown jewel at the moment. The only other guitars in my sights long-term are a Maple AJ and a Maple Nick Lucas/Century Of Progress, once those are in the fold (in years to come) I think I can officially call time on guitar buying...😉

Oh yes that's a stunner. I just bought a Taylor 150e a couple of weeks ago it my first 12 String and I'm loving it so far. If the love continues I'd definitely look at getting a Gibson 12er in the future. Would love to hear yours if you get chance to do a demo. Again congrats she's a beauty.

.

Nice to hear you got help from John making the purchase.

Being a big 12 fan myself I’m always looking around. Coincidentally i saw some 12-string Birds posted on fleaBay in heritage cherry out of Japan with hefty price tags.

Yours is a beauty. Glad you’re enjoying it.

Congrats! . B)

Congs on this flagship - think we have another aboard already. If I'm not too far off, Valleygirl keeps one in the house.

Never heard them so look forward to see if there are any Bird-traces to be found inside all that steel.

A double-dose of nectar, , , a two-layer glaze. . . !?. Probably not, , , but then again. .

P.S. - Please play the intro to Tambourine Man

PP.S. - Could be interesting to check and A/B it with only 6 strings.

I’m getting the blame for annoying his neighbours😂😂

I hope to hear more of her soon

Great to meet up with Amy and Phil we share a love of guitars and Volvos

Now does anyone need a SWD12?

Yes Leslie has one also

She had a lot of trouble it’s Gibson in getting a neck replacement but I think it got sorted

The intro to Tambourine man is a must on a 12😂
