scott93933
Hi there, I inherited my Grandfather's old Gibson acoustic and I'm trying to figure out which model and year it is. I'm guessing it's an L5, but I'm not sure. You can see a photo of it here: http://gallery.me.com/scott93933#100024/Old%20Gibson There is no text anywhere on the guitar (not on the front or back of the headstock or the neck or the body or the tailpiece), other than "Gibson" on the top/front of the headstock. No "made in USA" or date or model info. There is a serial number visible through one of the f holes. The serial number is: 322 21 There's a space (not a hyphen) between the "322" and the "21." Although I'll never sell the guitar, as it has sentimental value to me, I'd like to get an idea of what it's worth so I can insure it, if necessary. Thanks for your help! ksdaddy
It's an L48 made between 1948 and 1955. The factory order number is 322 and it was #21 of that order. Sometimes order numbers can be dated. Since yours has no letter prefix (look closely for red pencil) then it's likely pre-1952.
