rednefceleb
I have taken notice of the China made Tak Matsumoto DC plus top model. I need to find out how they play (action-wise). Also the Burstbucker pup opinions. I own an Epi 60's Tribute Plus and I am surprisingly happy with the play-ability and the '57's are fine pups. Will the Matsumoto be about the same? (or better?) play-ability-wise? I have heard good and bad things about Burstbuckers. I have never plugged them in before. The cost of the 'Tak' looks about $700 used. I do have a little more money saved,(not much), but I could spring for a used Epi Elitist Les Paul. I think I could find one for a grand or a little more. Would the Elitist Paul simply be the best bet? Thanks for any opinions & experience.
Jeffytune
Hi there. From the picture and the description, I would summarize that is will have a neck identical to the new les pauls, that slim d shape. The upper frets would be easier to get to with the body shape, but tone wise, it will sound identical to a lp. The Ebony fretboard would be a nice plus, it's a bit smoother to play. It is most likely a great guitar, but one thing to keep in mind....resale value. In the world of solid body guitars, there are only 4 shapes that sell and keep there value. A Telecaster, and Stratocaster a Les Paul and a SG. Outside of those four, it gets harder and harder to find a buyer. Just something to keep in mind, but if your going to keep this guitar for the long haul, this point is mute. Personally, I like it, tho I wish it was in a different color. mihcmac
The Tak DC also seems to come in red, gold top, green and aqua blue.. Even though I prefer P-90's the Tak actually has the Gibson Burstbucker pickups that are making it really tempting.. Pre owned versions are selling for $500 to $900 + shipping on ebay.. :) Epi Tak specs.......

Before I buy one, I see that the 'Custom' model in black has an ebony fretboard like a Gibson. I have found that Gibson L.P. Customs play better than Standards. Have you played several of these 'Taks' to know if the Custom plays better that the Standards? I like the colors available, but want to get the best player between the two. Later. I have not played one yet.. but this being a High End Epiphone Built as a Tak Matsumoto signature final assembly in Japan. According to the Epiphone website it has Gibson USA pickups, Wilkinson Deluxe tuners and other things, it would be a very high quality build. Musicians Friend does have them in black with a hardcase for $799.. B) Black Tak
