snowbum007 1
Who has one, and thoughts on it? Co sideri g getting one. I have one. It is a great guitar. It is the nicest Epi I have for sure (It is also the most expensive). Fit and finish is almost flawless. The only issue I have found were two pin head sized errors where they missed putting black on the sides of the f-hole. I have never had a fender scale guitar and wondered if I would have any issues. I do not and it plays really easy. The sound is brighter than my les paul but not in a bad way. I don't mind the Bigsby (no tuning issues) and I think it balances the guitar nicely but I realize people usually either like them or hate them, with no in between. It also has a good amount of sustain, which is surprising for a hollow body (I have a 61 reissue Casino that I have compared it to). I'm really pleased that I took the chance with pre-ordering and would do it again. My recommendation is to run, not walk, to your closes retailer or computer to pick one up. snowbum007 1
I have not. It's like a blind date. Not quite a blind date. I assume you have seen pics. More like online dating. Now you get to see if the pics are accurate and what her personality is really like.

aspirin 1
Congrats. I will be curious on your thoughts. Have you played either the Epi or Gibson Johnny A? not completely hollow. i've had 2 of the customs. i remember once there was a diagram back in 2003 but i cannot find it. in any case, i inserted my pinky in one of the f holes and was surprised to find that there is a wood block by bridge and pup, and i suppose elsewhere. i knew this but was surprised to find it goes all the way from bottom to top. so at best technically these guitars cannot actually be fully hollowbodied. try this at home you will see what i mean. they do not actually have the acoustic properties of a 330 for ex. I was curious to see if these had a Midtown build to them ..carved yet left somewhat whole in places with a top added as opposed to a laminate. Has a plate for the control cavity. Midtown's a vibration machine that shakes me every time and I Really like its tone Edited January 22, 2018 by 212West
murphboogie 0
I've also got a Johnny A on order from GC. They played a trick on me as the website said the guitar was available and in stock, but as soon as I purchased it I got an email saying it was back ordered. Â The wait is killing me! This is how hollow bodies are built today; It is there to support the bridge. I have a 61' reissue casino which is also a hollow body and it has the same support block. I disagree with your premise on acoustic properties. The Johnny A has similar acoustic properties to my casino. Neither are as loud as an acoustic guitar but louder than my les pauls and es-335. Here is some eye candy.
kidblast 1,464
the difference is simple. Â Semihollow - block. have been this way since they started makin em. Johnny A is a Semi.. (like a 335) hollow - no block. not a semi-hollow... doesn't matter the width of the body. usually hollow bodies have a floating bridge, but not all do... snowbum007 1
No it is not like a 335. I have one, I know. There is not a block down the entire middle. There is a small block under the bridge to support it. Otherwise it is hollow. When I put a mirror in the f-hole I can see to the other side of the body, just like my casino. Sleeko 16
Well they certainly look beautiful.
Pin 86
I think they are great looking guitars and Johnny A sure makes them sound good! Â They have, however, one massive fatal flaw: 25.5 inch scale length. Edited March 21, 2018 by Pin
slk 0
One other problem I see is that no one has any. Everyone is back ordered, and the date expected has already gone to May/June. Epiphone will not ship a container until it is full....Most of the companies have numerous Johnny A's on the order. Just do not know what to think..... slk 0
Well guys I was able to get one of the Johnny A's. Had it about a week now and it is a wonderful guitar. The sustain is a killer. The playability is right up there with any of my Gibson's. I changed to flatwound strings and it came alive. I would post some pics but photobucket doesn't play nice anymore. Looking for a new photo host. Â Steve
