Epiphone Casino pickguard

Poor chinese Gibson copy.

I know.

We all know a Chinese (or Korean) Epiphone is not a Gibson. Poor? It serves its function well.

I have a Qingdao Casino. I bought it because I didn’t want to gig anymore with my going-on-sixty-year-old ES-125TDC - it’s getting a bit delicate. The 125 is an amazing guitar; it sounds huge. I didn’t expect the Casino to measure up, and of course it didn’t. How could it? It hasn’t been vibrated for half a century.

But I viewed the Epi as a platform and changed everything on it. Vintage-voiced Fralin P90s, pots, switch, jack, nut, bridge, tuners. Everything except the trapeze, the bridge bushings, and the frets.

I’m looking at those bushings ....

Does it measure up now? No. But close, or close enough. On stage in a bar with a drummer and you won’t hear much difference. It’s fun to play, it looks good, it sounds good, I’m not plunged into deep depression when I ding it, nobody is going to steal it; I don’t have to spend my breaks wondering if my guitar will be on stage when I get back. And it doesn’t have a Brazilian fingerboard, so I don’t have to worry about crossing borders with it (which I do often, living where I do - Germany/Switzerland/France).

It sounds wonderful through a tweed for old-school blues. T-Bone, early Freddie - no problem.

It’s not a 330. Or a 125 (basically the same thing). But it’s pretty darn good. Even the poly doesn’t bug me - but my hands don’t sweat much.

All you HAVE to do is put reasonable pickups in it instead of the crazy overwound stocks.

Looks great !!

Where did you get that pickguard from ? I'd like to get one !

I bought the pickguard on EBay, C-Rocker Custom Guitars shop.

My Epi Casino was mase in 2015 so I order this model : https://www.ebay.com/itm/CASINO-2012-2013-5-Ply-Black-Pickguard-Bracket-made-for-Epiphone-Project-NEW/132284368444?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160727114228%26meid%3D1ceca15010794315b77329583870a28f%26pid%3D100290%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26mehot%3Dlo%26sd%3D152595465968&_trksid=p2060778.c100290.m3507

Buy a 5 ply pickguard with 60° wide bevel.

Choose the correct model : http://stores.ebay.com/C-Rocker-Custom-Guitars?_dmd=2&_nkw=casino+5ply+pickguard

I'm doing the same with my ES 335 Pro

had to order the pickguard off Reverb from a seller that makes a 5 ply version specific for the current Epiphone 335 Pro,

I ordered it without the hole drilled for the bracket because I want to glue the bracket on.

I had ordered a Bosco 335 style pg but it doesn't fit, is 3 ply, and looks cheap

I own a 1967 Casino E230TD and have been searching for a vintage original or replacement pick guard that fits...including (preferably) period correct guard mounting hardware.

Anyone know where I should be looking to find such a thing?? I also need the wiggle stick....but no luck thus far finding any of this stuff. Help appreciated.

I've always had good luck with Terrapin. If they don't list yours, contact them. They have more. If you have one that fits well, but want a different color, you can send yours (or a template) and they'll match it. I've sent several, inside a magazine, using USPS Media Mail (very cheap) and had the original and the new sent back. I've done Casino, Sheraton, Zephyr Blues Deluxe and Sg that way and been very happy. Plus they do then without the bracket hole, if you want to do the 335 mount. Highly recommended.

For those Gibson 335 snobs who never take their guitar out, why don’t you just stop playing, that’s if you can play in the first place. For the rest of us who gig regularly,  get an Epiphone or a Hagstrom

I'm with you Brother, I leave my Vintage Guitars at Home these days & play out with some really good Guitars that can be easily & relatively inexpensively replaced.. Same with Amps...
