light_n_roses Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Hi ! This is the first time that I post in here and I'm doing it because I'm about to buy an used epiphone les paul slash signature for about 300 euro but I'm not very sure about its quality. I would like to know if anyone, more expert than me can help to discover if this is a original guitar or a fake one. Here there are some photos.
Flight959 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 It doesnt look ok... The Epiphone Slash's I have seen have the new Epi Custom logo on the back of the headstock! This one doesnt... Nice guitar though... I would alsp say the back of it is not dark enough.. They also come with the Slash hard case.. Flight959
guitarbob123 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 i think the plates are the wrong colour aswell i say avoid
jameswithesg Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 3 screws for truss rod cover? i know thats a sign for fake gibson (edit: just looked at a pic of slash holding an epi with 3 screws) ive never seen that color before
Flight959 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I have also noticed that there are several different finishes/bursts on these models... Flight959
stevezapp Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Do people tend to fake Epi's tho? I can see the reason in faking £3000 guitar, but a £250 one?

The bottom line though... the logo is missing... All Epi's have 3 screw TRC's Flight959
Thundergod Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 My gut tells me its a fake... and the price.
MI_Canuck Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 it's a fake... the Slash Epis had a much darker back (not read like shown). Plus the missing Epi Custom logo as mentioned. One more thing would be to check the neck pickup cavity. Obviously the seller would have to agree to this. The Epi Slash actually had a long neck tenon.
sycephant Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Fake. Slash EPI does NOT have a flame top. It's still pretty cool though
jnastynebr Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Looks like a flame top Epi LP with a "Slash" truss rod cover.
clance Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Looks like a flame top Epi LP with a "Slash" truss rod cover. That and the pickup covers removed. This is probably what it is.
light_n_roses Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 Thanks to all of you for all this answers, honesty those are exactly my same thoughts about this guitar, indeed the back is too light to be a slash series and the truscross is not origianl ...probably this is a normale epi les paul standard with the logo changed but I have also some other doubt that It could a completle fake. Anyway I don't think that I'm going to buy this for 300 euro....the risk is clearly too high...
macklanders Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 There are a couple of different Slash Epiphones. There is the 2008 Goldtop and Tobacco burst and an earlier model from a few years ago. This looks like the older model Slash.
BlackHawk233 Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 My Guess is it is an Epiphone, But someone wanted "More money" so they changed a few bits and tried to pass it off as a Slash. Just sayin.

If you see properly the written "les Paul" is too small from the original one and also the written slash has a different font style. You can see here the differences: original : the questioned one :
