Whats in the box?

Ripped off in what way? You can always check the serial number and see the exact date it was made.

Not sure if GC really keeps their expensive guitars under wraps in the stock room (I know that the ones near me don't). And most importantly you want to be able to play one first before you buy. I got my '05 at GC and it didn't come with the checklist but came with a truss rod adjuster. My '08 came with both but I got that at the HOG in Rochester. I'm OK with not getting a checklist (all guitars that have left Gibson are checked). Check the intonation' date=' action, fret buzzing, etc. Even ones that come directly from Gibson right out of the box may need to get adjusted, so I'm not sure if you're really getting much by having a checklist in hand. Its not the fact of not having the stuff, its the fact that you know the guitar has been around the block a bit.

If you cant get a guitar with all packaged items then its not really like buying it new.

I am just crazy about the stuff I buy. And if I am buying something with 4 digits its going to be new. Unless its some awesome vintage or something.

I dont have a camera or my guitar with me' date=' but my 2007 LP standard (new in box).

Came with a warranty registration, a salt packet, an owners manual, a check list, a pick gaurd, and a truss rod adjustment tool. Oh, and a Gibson Les Paul guitar.

My Fender USA Stratocaster (new in box) came with a strap, a guitar cable, paper work, check list, tremlo, a wipe down cloth, a half a pack of ciggarettes, TSA lock instructions, a porno video, a bumper sticker, promotional dispaly materials, a lock of JFK's pubic hair, three salt packets, a nipple ring, and the warranty registration.

Fender is a little more generous with the goodies than Gibson.

Would you elaborate on your bad Guitar Center experience? [/quote']

LMFAO!!! I knew GC shorted me. I didn't get any pubes with the J-bass I bought.

Some of you guys aren't going to like this but...

I bought my '91 CS LP Custom brand new when I was working at a music store. I picked it out off the rack after checking out a ton of other LPs over the course of a month or two. Now, mind you, I was right out of college (BA in Communications which meant that I could get a job in retail) so I was just some sales guy working at a music store but I still knew a good guitar from a bad one back then.

Back then, there wasn't all this worship around collectibility surrounding new guitars like there is now so, after I found the guitar I wanted, my manager went back and grabbed a Gibson case out of the stock room for it...

Maybe it was the original case or maybe it wasn't. Who knows? I didn't care let alone think to ask. Either way, there was no certificate or allen wrench or any of that other crap in the case, it was just one of the brown cases with the pink lining and shroud to keep the thing protected when I moved the guitar from one place to another.

My point here is that, while I understand that a lot of folks want all that case candy and certificates and stuff, but just because the store where you bought it doesn't produce it all if you buy it off the wall that doesn't mean that it's fake. I can definitely understand why Carbonite was pissed though; the sales people and store as a whole seem like a bunch of jackasses with their "store policy" crap but perhaps that just makes them idiots, not people who traffic in counterfeit products.

Ok, My guitar came with a checklist, and mostly everything that a Studio (VM) should come with. besides a Truss Rod Adjuster. When the guy pulled it out from the back. IT WAS IN ITS ORIGINAL CARDBOARD BOX, and he had to open the box. And out came a VM with its own case and all that I wanted. I don't know whats to complain about, its a piece of paper with checks and a signature/initials I think. I say Shut up and play your guitars already. Sorry I just feel its dumb to complain about whether the Store took some things out. or you didn't get something.. I didn't get a TR adjuster I guess because, like someone stated, late 08's didn't get them?

EDIT: Hey' date=' does anybody buy their guitars online at all? Do they ever send out floor models? I mean, do you get a brand new in the box guitar? And if so, do they double box it?

Maybe I could go that route and and finally be rid of guitar center forever.

Only thing is, I wont be able to open it in the store myself and test it out on the amps.

I've bought two Gibsons online, an SG and a Les Paul. Yeah, I know - crazy, of course I'd ideally like to test a few; but it's a long way to the nearest store with a selection of Gibsons and even further to one with good prices. Both needed a pro setup in order to fit my tastes, but that's to be expected. They came in their original Gibson hard cases inside the original Gibson cardboard boxes packed in an extra cardboard box for protection.

Oh, and the SG 3SC came with a manual for humbucking Gibsons, and the Les Paul came with a manual for the Robot. That part is kind of cheap...
