ES vs. ESLes

I haven't played an ES Les Paul but I understand they're made from plywood/laminated top and back. I don't know if they have a maple center block or what.

But the plywood guitars with maple center blocks sound different than the mahogany bodied guitars. 335's and 339's sound more alike, and Les Pauls and 336's sound more alike, at least to my ear. Like, you can make a 339 sound like a 335, but you can't make a Les Paul sound like a 335.

I'm guessing that the ES Les Paul sounds like a 339 more than anything else, because of the plywood construction. Just guessing though..

I've played quite a few of the 59 dot es335 custom shops and 63 trap es335 custom shops . I've done lots of side by side comparison with them against epi dots, casino's and lucille's but not tried the es les paul yet. FWIW I preferred the 63's and that was before considering that In the UK they're £1500 less than the 59's for which you could buy another gibby

SO..........did a little more research...........

Sat and played a couple of the ES-Les models, and a bunch of 335's. I've ruled out the ESLes........don't get me wrong, they were great guitars that really have their own thing going for them, but they just are not for me.

Played a bunch of 335's........a few new ones, a 1981, 1987, and a 90's........all great guitars.

Was sitting playing a new pelham blue ES335TD 1963 and the "waynes world" voice crept into my head........."OH, you WILL be mine!"

.................then, like the idiot that I am, I spotted a Les Paul Special Double Cut in TV Yellow............and I've been looking for one of those for a LONG time.......SOOOOO, I told the guy that if that blue 335 is still there in a week or two, I'll grab it......lol.

My kind of gear maniac. [thumbup] :)

I knew you would sympathize.......lol.

Yeah, When I get a specific guitar in mind, not much will distract me, but a TV Yellow DC Special is one of those rare things.....lol
