Toner
I have a problem with one of my 57 Classics in my R7. The Bridge pickup has a Chrome cover. I have looked at the underside of both and they have the P.A.F. labels. All the nickel is aging nicely and the guitar is great, but I have a few questions. I checked the resistance and they are both 8.8k ohms. Are they Classic + pickups? Also, can I get the correct nickel cover for the bridge pickup? I also noticed that the magnetic polarity of the neck pickup is reversed, is this normal? Thanks
Custom Admin
they should definitely both be nickel, and the polarity should be the same on both pickups. as far as the type of pickup, i guess someone could have made a mistake, but i don't believe we were putting 57+ in any regular production guitars at that time, so yours should just be normal 57s... Toner
OK, how much is covered under warranty? I am the original purchaser. I would like to have the most "Historically Correct" R7 and I know that P.A.F.'s were wound between 7.5k and 9.0k ohms, so that's not a problem, but it seems that the cover should be replaced under warranty. And the reversed polarity is not a big deal, and I kind of like the "Out of Phase" sound of both pickups. Also, were the coils potted on these '98 pickups? Custom Admin
your electronics only have a 90 day warranty. i'm not sure how long hardware is covered for, but i would contact Gibson Customer Service to see about a replacement for the cover. they are at 1-800-4gibson or service@gibson.com. Toner
Well, I got a nickel cover from Repair and I am wondering if I need to wait another ten years for the nickel on the bridge PU to match the neck PU? This cover is very polished and hard to tarnish. Any ideas on how to make it look older sooner? I seem to remember the neck PU tarnishing fairly quickly. Did they use a different plating in 1998? FennRx
buy another cover and then they will match
Toner
Yes, I could do that, but I am trying to match the already somewhat aged cover.
Toner
What do you think? Does the new cover look like Nickel? I think it is Electroless nickel myself. If you have ever looked at an open hard disk drive, that is what they plate the aluminum disk with.
ibis
Just gig it! The sweat from you RH will corrode the bridge nickel pretty fast! Usually goes well before the neck on my guitars! I could do it for you!
w66
Get the nickel covers from a 58" standard VOS, then they'l look aged anyway.

I could do it for you! The new cover wont tarnish. Thats the problem. I know metal plating, and the plating is different from the neck pup. It has a different color to it.
