I just brought an unused mic home from the studio but didn't have a stand so I set it sticking out of a paper towel roll on a pillow while I played in a somewhat awkward position. I'm surprised it all worked and sounds ok Yeah ive only used a mic for recording since I started doing demos for my guitars, so only a few years.. I used to use a digital 4 track but I find micing the amp (obviously) gives you a much better sound and closer to what someone will get at home if they use a nice tube amp..
