Korean Sorrento

Recommended Posts

I was wondering who here owns a 90s Sorrento?

Tell us about it.

What do you like about it?

What color?

Bigsby or no Bigsby?

Would you sell it?

I forgot to say, mine is turquoise with a bigsby and I won’t ever sell it.

I like the slim neck and the tone of the P90s.

I've had mine for quite a few years now and I like it a lot --- great tone, comfortable to play. However it's not radically different from my Casino, so if I was hard up for cash I'd consider selling it.

In fact, a few years back I was in a dodgy cash situation so I put this up for sale along with another guitar, an amp, and some accessories. The other guitar sold, as well as the amp and some accessories, but not the Sorrento, which I'm happy about, since the other things that sold got me through the lean times. Here's a picture:

Another thing I like about it is the correct (and aesthetically pleasing) body, cutaway and f-hole shape. The more recent re-issues --- as well as the Epi ES-175 --- look oddly misshapen by comparison.

The neck dimensions are just right for me, it seems. I tend to like smaller necks a la Rickenbacker and vintage Gretsch. The Peerless Epi's scratch that itch and have good enough pickups and electronics to hold their own. Sometimes tuners need to be changed, which is simple, but often the stock ones are even ok.

My 96 Sorrento. The color is of the second photos below. Bought this around 12 years ago.Had a headstock repair before I bought it.

Never had a problem with it. Got it for around $280 and will never part with it.

Plays as well if not better than my 96 Casino. Both Peerless.

Not a bad job by the previous owner.

I'm partial to blondes, but that is beautiful. Love the color/grain.

I love my blondes also, but this just called to her. She is my only orange, I love a thin line with a Florentine cutaway. And she is so fun and sweet to play. Fantastic neck. Pickups sound really good. Not sure i’d they are original.Hard to believe she’s 22 years old.

Not sure, and I can't see them now. I still use PB on occasion, but imgur always works, so I'll have to transfer pics over, I guess.

Sorry for the delay, got a new hosting service. Took longer than I anticipated to download everything from Photobucket.

(They no longer have a Download Album and I had to download each image one at a time. Thanks Photobucket, I will never grace you domain again.)

So where was I? Oh yeah . . .

She is stamped 2nd and Used on the back, might have been from the crack, but she was fixed tight by the previous owner.

Not a bad job. Solid as a rock and no problems for over a decade. Not that it matters, I will never sell her.

Sorry for such large photos. But I like big photos.

Yes. The only other Epi in orange is the Swingster (Country Gent, but no longer in production).

I love this body style, thin with a Florentine cutaway.

Great combination.

I know the P90s are not period correct, but I love the sound out of these.

There are also Wildkats in Sunrise Orange out there that turn up every so often.

That's a nice color.

From the Peerless Production run, I have seen silver, gold and burgundy sparkle. Black, Turquoise, and Orange.

Haven't seen too many other colors although I know there's red and sunburst out there.

I must say, I enjoy the tremolo bar on mine.

Has anyone tried different P90s on their Peerless Sorrento ? Such as Lollar, Duncan, Vintage Vibe ? Wondering how the Peerless P90s compare.

I thought about putting a Bigsby on mine, but only if I could find an Epiphone branded one.

Those are so hard to find in the used market.

Missed out on one a couple of years ago on eBay, and have not seen one since.

I currently have a 1996 one in the orange sunrise color and plays like a dream.

I am also looking at getting my hands on another one. If anyone is looking to part ways with one, please drop me a line.

I don't care about the color - just prefer no bigsby.

Hi, here is mine from France, a red one, bought in US. Unfortunately, the tuners are not original. I'm looking to find it and replace. I love this guitare. ( I also have a 1962 reissue, who sound better than this 1994'). next one will be an orange with bigsby ! 😉

I recently inherited a Turquoise, made in '96, from my cousin after she lost to cancer. This was her favorite guitar and I look forward to learning and playing on it for years to come.
