Buckingham out Campbell in

I like Neil Finn just fine, I'm neither here nor there on Campbell (Wasn't a huge Tom Petty fan) however... Neither one of these guys can ever hope carry Buckingham's luggage IMHO.

True dat. After I saw LB live I wondered why I even bother playing guitar.

In this point and time of their career, does it really matter? A fresh sound might be interesting.

Totally agree with this.

It's a case of whose band is it anyway - it's not Buckingham Mac, and he's been playing all his songs with his own backing band - which is on youtube. He should join the Eagles.

There was some brouhaha a few years back when he objected to Christine McVie's return - "she can't just come and go as she pleases" - but he rejoined after his solo career didn't take off.

Campbell is a wonderful and under-rated guitar player; different style and sound. I think he's much better than LB but I'm not a big Mac fan [flapper] (geddit?)

Plus Neil Finn writes and sings to a very high standard.

I saw F Mac twice; in June 1969 with the 3 guitar lineup of Green, Kirwan and Spencer - and they rocked - hard....unforgettable and a different band.

Then with Burnette and Vito (great guitarist) in the 80s; some good bits but a bit MOR/AOR for me...there were backing musicians offstage then, too.

I could see adding Peter Green back, but I don't know if they'd be backing up. I like Mike, but I'd rather see FM add a younger, less known talent whose style and personality meshes well.

Buckingham/Nicks brought a pop appeal, some good tunes, and commercial success, but who says FM can't reinvent themselves at this point?

I saw FM in a small venue in Greensboro right after they added Buckingham and Nicks... had seats on, like, the second row. They served beer at that venue, and I spent all my time in line for beer and in line to the bathroom. That's where my head was at back then.

indeed, he is. LB is very unique though and a lot of his influence shaped FM over the decades. Suppose it will all work out for the best, most things do. Personally I wish them all success with the new line up. It just might be the best thing they've ever done. who knows.

I dont believe Michael Campbell would be carrying anyones bags, he is a great guitarist...not saying who is better but Campbell is very very underrated..

You just like his name. msp_flapper.gif

Seriously though, I agree. Mike is on my short list of favorite guitar players. But then Lindsey is also. I'll just say I'm not worthy to carry either of their luggage. msp_unsure.gif

I saw them about 18 months ago, and left feeling that Fleetwood Mac were Lindsey Buckingham's backing band, you certainly got the feeling that he had a massive ego.

Yeah, but someone has to be the leader...I suppose?

With both The Eagles and FM it is a case of getting in new and younger blood. There's nothing wrong with this, it gives a new direction as well as an increase in overall offer.

The Eagles with Vince Gill will open up that Nashville sound and with FM Finn will bring in his songs and Campbell was the sound of Tom Petty.

The only looser seems to be Lindsey Buckingham but rather than going on his own perhaps he should do the same thing and join an ageing band CSN or Paul McCartney ???

An interesting and slightly outrageous piece of news.....

Never heard of either new player or been hugely into Crowded' or Petty bands.....

One assumes Buckingham has enough money to never really need to work again

So the hard won luxury of not wanting to be bothered can come to the fore

Good luck to all involved.....the catalogue is probably powerful enough to sell out all the world's stadia

Be interesting to hear audience feedback in due course....

Rock on.....!!

But with tight vocal harmonies and not too loud please......dry.gif

That's how damn good not good, amazingly talented he is you need 2 guys to replace him.

Totally agree with that. I saw them some time in the 80's and he was amazing then. I got curious and looked it up. 1982 in Indianapolis, IN. My parents bought me tickets for my birthday.

The Dinosaurs need to stop roaming the Earth. When only 1 member of your group is an original member maybe its time to end it.
