pippy 1,550 Report post Posted April 29, 2018 I'm delighted to see Gibson Custom Shop offering this service and I'm sure many folks will be thrilled to discover they can now have a Gibson tailor-made to their exact specifications. Pip.

Pip. Yes they can and for a nice price I am sure. 2k is about my limit for any guitar new. I am sure nothing will be close to 2k from the Custom Shop. And what about shipping over to the UK or OZ Land? Shipping has got to be in the hundreds. Forget about it. There are so many nice used guitars on The Bay and Reverb. I would rather profit from someone who bought a super nice guitar and played it 5 times and is ready to dump it cause it was to hard for them. Rabs 1,338 Report post Posted April 29, 2018 Yeah I think this M2M thing has actually been about for a while.... Thing is its all well and good advertising it now.. But it may be a bit late in the day cos theres a big chance now of new management coming in so its probably all going to change again in a few months anyway? I'm not wishing to start a bunfight, D-28 (and the M2M is hardly going to be aimed at the likes of me anyhow), but that doesn't mean I'm not very happy that the opportunity will be available for those with deeper pockets than myself; quite the reverse. I'm genuinely very glad some folks will be able to custom-order a Les Paul Standard (say) in exactly the profile they would consider to be their perfect instrument. Just because something is outwith my own budget that doesn't mean I begrudge others the chance to order something very special for themselves. And who knows what the future holds in store? Perhaps some long-lost family multi-billionaire will finally manage to track me down and hand me the key to their overloaded coffers. I wish she (or he) would hurry it up a bit... Pip. I agree whole hearted with the above. If I had pockets deep enough that I was looking at new re-issues or collectors choices I would be all over this. Imagine that these would be in the same league as the CC's in quality and price and completely custom for me, it would be a no brainier. Alas, without the lotto (which I don't even play) or some lost forgotten inheritance I'll content myself living vicariously through the NGDs here while playing my regular production LPCs. But a guitar from the custom shop is way out of my budget.

SteveFord 581 Report post Posted April 29, 2018 I know what I would ask for: A Firebird neck (all the way through the body) which would be a 355 body. Better toss in an ebony fret board to class it up a little. Keep the change.

I like the one Johnny Winter plays not sure if it the reverse or non-reverse. I dig the LP (album) Still Alive And Well. Rick Derringer did a killer cover of the title track and Cheap Tequila, and also his signature song, Rock And Roll Hoochie Koo, was not originally on one of his albums, but he played on it so... SteveFord 581 Report post Posted April 29, 2018 I like this particular Firebird (2014 nibless wonder) best of all. I've played some that where just terrible but the 2013 I sold and now this 2014 are just stellar. I hated boxing up that 2013 but I must have really needed the money for some disaster at the time. I remember playing a 2014 Firebird at a Guitar Center when they first came out and it was a godawful pile uh covfefe so luck of the draw, I suppose. Hated my 2007 Zebrawood GOTW Firebird, too. It had ridiculously high frets and the neck was wide and super skinny. It looked nice but just horrible to play.
Guest Farnsbarns Report post Posted April 30, 2018 This isn't new. Everyone knows this has been going on since the 90's, yes? Granted there's been a few breaks but generally this has always been an option.

fortyearspickn 411 Report post Posted April 30, 2018 1525078246[/url]' post='1932596']This isn't new. Everyone knows this has been going on since the 90's, yes? Granted there's been a few breaks but generally this has always been an option. On the Acoustic side, Bozeman hasn't been taking one off, special orders from end buyers for around 10 years. Only chance you had was if one of their Five Star Dealers ordered a "limited edition" run for themselves. Usually around 50 in a flavor they felt they could move with the help of the Internet. Yes, sadly Gibsons cost more and are less available overseas. Japanese market seems to accept that. Just like we accept foreign made, high end goods cost more here. I see this as a positive, in light of recent articles predicting bankruptcy. But I've always believed, whether the glass is half full or half empty, it can always be re-filled. Rabs 1,338 Report post Posted April 30, 2018 (edited) They talked about this at NAMM 2017... That they were no longer doing the stock models as such it all has to be ordered specifically.. Here Edited April 30, 2018 by Rabs
bobouz 225 Report post Posted April 30, 2018 A few months ago, I sold a mint 2006 natural finish ES-335 figured Dot. I got the price I wanted, but no doubt, there are a whole lot of 335s on the used market for a buyer to choose from. Same with LPs in any of the standard configurations. Yes, buying used makes a lot of sense. So how can Gibson separate itself from the used crowd in a meaningful way & still ask a ton of money for a new guitar? Well, one way is to personalize each instrument with custom features upon request. Makes good sense, imho.
