Norlin era exaggerated?

Recommended Posts

A The Paul was my first real guitar. Wished I still had it for sentimental reasons. But The stuff I own now BB King and LP Trad Pro II es muy bueno'er.

Yes, "Lucille" is a monster guitar!! I'm fortunate enough, to own one of those, as well...

A 2002 model w/real ebony fingerboard! I'm sure your LP Trad Pro II is, as well. [thumbup]

Regarding "wish I still had" guitars...I'd LOVE to still have my '68 LP Custom, '68 ES-355 Stereo,

and 68 "Jet Glow" Ric 360-12 string! Kick myself, every time I dare to think about them!! Never

mind, the '69 Marshall "Major" (200 watt) Full Stack! Seen below, in 1969 Polaroid print, when

I was 19! Arrrrgggg!! [cursing]](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

I have a have 6 Norlins and they are mostly quirky models like the Marauder, Corvus, L6-S and Invader. I like the fact that they are different. I also like that they are affordable.

I hope the "dark cloud" stays over Norlin era Gibsons.  I  have a few more models to obtain before the 70s vintage craze hits.

Nah, its like the 20 year thing. We (I) hated alot of the  80's music now people think its cool and classic. Nope, most of the 80's was shite. People will pine for them and they will soon be in that vintage category that only the uber rich and elite can afford no matter what people think about them.

It might be too late, go check out some of the stuff on Reverb.  I would like to replace the mid 70s ES-335 I stupidly sold but not at $4000 I'm not.

Here, I graphed it out for you.

The Norlin Era at Gibson:
1970 to 1983

The AMF era at Harley Davidson:
1969 to 1981

The CBS era at Fender:
1965 to 1985

The Ford Pinto/Mustang II/Fairmont era:
Pinto - 1971 to 1980
Mustang II - 1974 to 1978
Fairmont - 1978 to 1983

Note please that the center of each company's worst years lines up between roughly 1975 and 1977.

The very years I attended high school.

I knew it couldn't have been a coincidence.
The suck and misery was real for me. I hated high school.

I had no idea that it was universal, omnipresent,  and shared by all of us across the board.
I thought it was just me.

You think I'm off-base?

Take a look at the top five best-selling records for those three years:

1975
1 "Love Will Keep Us Together"    Captain & Tennille
2    "Rhinestone Cowboy"    Glen Campbell
3    "Philadelphia Freedom"    Elton John
4    "Before the Next Teardrop Falls"    Freddy Fender
5    "My Eyes Adored You"    Frankie Valli

1976
1    "Silly Love Songs"    Wings
2    "Don't Go Breaking My Heart"    Elton John & Kiki Dee
3    "Disco Lady"    Johnnie Taylor
4    "December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)"    The Four Seasons
5    "Play That Funky Music"    Wild Cherry

1977
1    "Tonight's the Night (Gonna Be Alright)"    Rod Stewart
2    "I Just Want to Be Your Everything"    Andy Gibb
3    "Best of My Love"    The Emotions
4    "Evergreen (Love Theme from A Star Is Born)"    Barbra Streisand
5    "Angel in Your Arms"    Hot

Not a single song by Grand Funk Railroad, Bad Company, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, or Rick Derringer.

It's like the Da Vinci Code, only really stupid and mediocre.
There's something spooky about this, I tell ya.

Sales mean nothing especially today. If an album sold 80 million or 5 copies, makes no differance - good is good.

Its called Pop Music for a reason and not Really Good Music. Zeppelin was never a singles band. You were/are supposed to, and I do listen to an album from start to finish in order, that is how it is/was intended. In that time frame Jeff Beck was making instrumental albums, and wasn't the Disco-ee / Punk  flavor of the day.
