Morgans are very special indeed...…[thumbup]

And can be found as genuine classics in a slightly similar vein to early MG's and Triumph TR's

Or....almost incredibly.....purchased brand new.....made in a similar way, with modern brakes and engines.....[thumbup]

Mrs V and I are pondering the hire of a Morgan 3 wheeler....

To enjoy the unique experience of a bygone era....with wind in the hair and snappy handling like no other.....:blink:

Ian your car is a beauty. I noticed the disc brakes and third tail light. Is it a replica car?

No Marky (well sort of). It's a 2002 Morgan Le Mans62, Morgan built 40 of them to celebrate winning the 2 litre class in the Le Mans 24 hour race in 1962.

Morgan are still in operation at Malvern Worcestershire here in the UK:

Thanks for the link Pippy, unfortunately it says there out of stock. I'm currently building a Pocher 1/8th scale Alfa Romeo 8C which I've nearly finished, I've just got the wire wheels to build [confused] As you may of guessed, I don't get out much!

Thanks for the video, Ian. What an amazing car company! With its steel (maybe aluminum) frame, aluminum clad wooden body, beautiful Scottish leather interior, some with motorcycle engines and three wheels it is truly a beautiful and remarkable car.This video is a followup and I hope you enjoy it:

this has to be the coolest thread so far this year, imo.

just so i can play along with the others, i'll mention that i was once offered a lotus super 7 with a racing pedigree, once. the man who drove it had died, and his daughter just wanted it gone. it was too painful for her to look at. the catch was, i had to pick it up that night by 8 pm. i was going through some stuff at the time, and couldn;t come up with the $$ for a tow truck. i gave her number to a so-called friend. he picked up the car, and sold it less than a week later for $30k. he never said thank you or even bought me lunch

That's a shame. With friends like that...

You are fortunate to own one of those beauties, Ian. Does it have only one door handle, on the driver's side?

Yes Marky. When the car was built door handles were an optional extra on Morgan's (I'm not sure if they still are), but the LM 62's had one on the drivers side as standard.

Funny story, when they built the LM cars, they did 40 1.8 litre and 40 4.0 litre cars, my local dealer had secured two 1.8's and one 4.0 litre. On the day when I went to collect my car another bloke was collecting the other 1.8 (the 4.0 litre was unsold at that point) but the dealer asked us if we'd like to exchange one of the 1.8's for the 4.0 litre as a guy in Switzerland wanted a 1.8 and was willing to pay the difference if he could have one of our cars (I think roughly £10,000 difference). We both declined, me because I was at University at the time so the prospect of running a 4.0 V8 at that time seemed like pushing my luck a bit too far!

This is what the car looks like with it's hard top on.

A student with a brand-spanking-new Morgan?

Only three of my student colleagues had any car at all and the flashiest of those was a semi-knackered '73 Beetle...

Spotted this beauty at this years Brodie Castle car show. The owner told me that it was raced at Le Mans by it's original owner "Scrap" Thistlethwaite who was so called because he used to buy crashed during races and take parts off them for his own car. It sounds like there were some interesting character's around between the World wars who made the most of their affluence. Obviously very rich and privileged!

Beautiful patina!

The Crystal Palace Sprint Metting was cancelled this year which was a shame as it's always good for seeing something unusual.

Last year this gorgeous - and rare - Lester MG caught my attention;

Here's a link to more info about the 'Monkey Stable' for those with the yen...

Yes, the Lester M.G. was a VERY pretty thing indeed. It was driven by the author of the book on the marque featured in the link posted earlier.

Lord March's annual old car shindig is happening again in a fortnight's time. I sincerely hope I can manage along on either the Saturday or the Sunday. Last time I went (in 2016) I took along a car enthusiast who had never been before. After we parked up it took us one and a half hours to get into the circuit as there were so many incredible things just there in the car park. It really is an event without equal.

A couple of snaps from back in '16 with exotica from very different eras. First-off yet another celebration of those D-Type fins followed by my personal favourite design ever made by a tractor manufacturer;

I find it hard to believe the Miura is over 50 years old. It's still an absolute stunner from every angle.

Agreed. The Miura is an absolute stunner, even today. A Miura S, in the USA, is worth about $500,000, about half the price of an SV, but it's certainly not half the car.

Another favorite Lamborgini of mine is the Diablo. I believe the Miura is one of the first mid-engine production cars and the Diablo is the first to exceed 200mph/322kph. Both have timeless beauty, IMO.

This 2001 car is 1 of 20 produced with Viscous Traction AWD:M9Ahzbd.jpgyymsiPp.jpg

I'm not even going to bother to spell check this post tonight. To many exotic car names.

Over the past few days I've been fortunate enough to be on Hwy 101 in Monterey, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties respectively.

The Monterey Car Week and Concourse d'Elegance is going on this weekend and the highway has been filled with, Ford GTs, Lamborginnis, Ferraris, Mazarattis, Maclarens, Panteras, Porches and many other exotic, high performance sportscars.

It's been eye candy for exotic cars all week long. I've been driving southbound and they've been going north. It's been amazing!!!! On Wednesday, I saw no less than 40 cars, and easily that many on Thursday too.

The funny thing has been all of the Highway Patrolmen on the northbound side of the road. Sure they pulled a few over, but there was no way they were going to get them all. They couldn't put enough CHIP out on the road. It was really funny when I look back.

All those exotic cars and no where near enough patrolmen. Futility I say. Utter futility.

Anyway, just couldn't get over all the car porn out on the other side of the road this week. If you're in Cali, the southbound side of 101 is going to be very interesting Sunday. Probably the northbound for the SF Bay area folks.

That's funny! It would be a fun day out just sitting at a cafe table watching all that fine machinery pass by with a cool beer in front of you...

'Strange But True' story.

Quite a while ago I was standing in a square in Florence, Italy. There was a mighty wailing noise coming from somewhere off to the left and a few seconds later a Ferrari burst into the piazza traveling at well over the legal limit. Watching this unfold were three armed policemen; two standing by their patrol car and a third on his motorbike. The Ferrari carried on it's pacy journey around three of the sides of the square. When it finally disappeared the policemen just nodded and burst into heart-felt applause...

Had a quick google as, even although I've read a fair bit about the Bentley Boys over the years, I had never heard Scrap's name mentioned as being their number before. It turns out there is now a book published about him;

Can't find it for sale advertised new (price £45) but do see some going s/hand (£125!)...
