Epiphome Sheraton

Recommended Posts

I would love some help on picking a new guitar. I currently have an Epic Casino (fully hollow), Epi Les Paul (solid body) and a fender telecaster.

I'm having major GAS and would love to add a new Epi into my collection and want a semi hollow in my growing collection. I feel going second hand because there are allot of bargains out there and really fancy something a bit more up market than the dot and fancy a Sheraton.

Wanted to know what's people's opinion of the Sheraton over a dot and even the Sheraton II or anything else they feel would be a good option.

I'm really wanting to know why you would choose a particular semi hollow over a different model? I've listened and tried various models and I guess to an extent looking for more reasons of why I need another guitar and wanted to pick people's brains. 🤔

I guess the front runners here would be a 339 pro (the smaller 335 style) as well as the Sheraton Pro II. The "Pro" models will have better hardware and electronics

You can probably find plenty of MIK Sheraton II and depending on the build year, they would have (IMHO) inferior hardware and pickups. The guys who jack up the eBay BIN prices saying the MIK from prior to the PRo II variants are "Better" just trying to mislead IMO and make a few bucks off some artificial selling point that the old MIKs were better. They aint..

I had a Sheraton II MIK from the mid 90s I think I got it 97 / 98. Pickups were just not at the level the newer ones are. (I know cuz I have a Pro II from 2015)

the pro-buckers are head and shoulders above the stock PUPs that were loaded in my other sherry.

Also the hardware in general is just more solid. Better tuners, (Grovers) a better nut material, and better gold coating on the bridge/stop bar.

My last sherry, the gold plating had shown wear after just a few months. The new Sherry shows none after 3 years.

The 339 Pros are pretty popular too.. the smaller body size seems to grab a lot of people who are just of the mind that the 335 size is a bit too much.

and this

I've listened and tried various models and I guess to an extent looking for more reasons of why I need another guitar and wanted to pick people's brains.

Because you can... that's all we need to know... :)

There was a time when I bought into the whole Korea and China made guitars but to be honest I've played a few and really like the new Chinese made Sheraton's. I bought a Korean made Casino A few years and wouldn't of considered a Chinese made one at that time but after looking at a few Sheratons I love the quality of them.

The detail of the guitar is amazing. The 5 ply binding on the pickguard in particular is something I can't believe they managed to do on a guitar at this price range.

I haven't tried the older versions so I take on board what you're saying about the pickups.

The feel and the quality of the guitar is in my opinion better made than my Casino

I'm in the UK and brand new I could pick one up for about £450 and £500 with a hard case. I would of liked a second hand one simply because there are a few gems out there and I know I will be able to pick one up a bit cheaper.

Problem with eBay is I would like to try it before buying especially after what your saying about the older ones

I don't really think theres much in it between the Korean and the Chinese Sherry's, I have a 2013 "50th Anniversary 1962 Ltd Ed" which is chinese and plays beautifully, a 2002 Korean Sheraton II that has been retro fitted with a Bigsby B-7 and Epiphone Elitist pickups and a 2016 Riviera Custom P-93 which is also chinese. My number one would be the 2002 Korean mainly because of the thicker neck and pickups, Although if you want variation you'd be hard pushed to beat the Rivera P-93, (I think of it as 3 guitars in one,

Guitar 1 = Either neck or bridge P-90 (middle pickups off) Classic sound of the 60's

Guitar 2 = Either neck or bridge with a little of the middle pickup dialed in (Almost humbucker like 335,345,355 lucille tones available)

Guitar 3 = Middle pickup on its own (very similar to the tone of a Gibson ES 225T (I love this setting for slide guitar)

All 3 were bought from Cash Converters here in the UK & the most expensive one of these was £400, there are some real bargains if you look around.

I'm sure if you wait it out, it will present itself. I can't argue with play before you pay either, but around my neck of the woods, the pickins are slim for these. There's plenty of 339s and Dots, LPs etc to test drive, but the edge up on cost for a Sheraton seems to keep them off the local racks. A guitar center would be my best bet, but I try to spend as little time as possible in there. Hard to hear what you're doing with 5 AMAZINGLY TALENTED up and coming rock stars busy at showing the world what they know at 90DB. told old for that, I'm at the "Get off my lawn" stage of my life at this time, and I seem to be embracing it. <_<

Depends on the age/time of the build. I would assume the newer ones, it would not mater where they were shipped from, as all the CNC machining is probably identical.

Try a 20 year old one, and compare it to a newer one, the pickups performance will no doubt be disappointing. Muddy and prone to feed back.

I can't say enough about the quality, playabilty, and sound of the Sheraton II Pro. The pickups are incredible, both in humbucker and tapped mode, so the tonal options seem unending. This is one of the finest guitars that I've owned, and after 60 years and more guitars than I can remember, that means something.

Don't want an SG, I've got a Les Paul so have a solid body and I also have a full hollow in the Casino. So I really want a semi hollow hence the Sheraton. I want it blinged up too as I think it's a beautiful guitar for the money.

I've been checking cash converters and cash generator on top of places like Reverb, eBay and gumtree. Second hand seems to be coming in at around d £400 but I dont know if I should just plump for a brand new one and go for it for the extra £50 after reading people's comments

On tone what is people's opinions on the Sheraton compared to a Dot? I mainly play through a tweed blues junior and get my tone from a range of pedals when it's not clean.

Yes.. IMO.. if it was half the cost, or in that ball park used is a no brainer, but that price you say is too close to new to just not go with a new one. The only thing to think about is the new ones, typically don't come with a case. so that would add (in us terms) another ~70~80 USD I'd STILL do it.

Also consider the new ones would have the coil tap feature which an older one might not.

can't comment on sound/tone, but if the pups are the same (pro-buckers w/the coil taps) then probably.

Get yourself a Wildkat and put all your other guitars away. ;)

I do like the Wildkat🤤🤤🤤🤤

Epiphone for the money make the best guitars IMHO. A Sheraton, Wildkat and if they make a reissue of a Coronet then my collection would be complete 🤔 well maybe almost complete 😜😂

I came on here to get some opinions and to maybe justify buying another guitar. I came here with the idea of JUST getting one more........

UPDATE....

I know I can get a Sheraton for £450 and normally the Wildkat sells for £300. A total of £750. I've just emailed a couple guitar stores in the UK to see what they can do me as a combined deal for the 2. Seriously considering purchasing the 2.

It's my birthday at the end of September and the Mrs has said well why don't you look at getting both at the same time..........😲😲😲😲

If I seriously can get a £100 knocked off that price I think I could be making a double purchase.

Think this forum could do with a health warning!! 😀😁😂🤣 Please don't anyone post any links for a Coronet 😀😁😂🤣

Found a second hand Wildkat on a second hand stores website in the UK and they are wanting £199 for it but £30 for delivery. Trying g to get them down on the price and playing hardball at the moment. If I can get free delivery on it I'm going to get it.

Then unless I get a really good deal on a second hand Sheraton I will be buying a brand new one too.

I'll keep you updated and get some pictures up if I'm successful with the second hand Wildkat and on a new Sheraton.
