Unplugged Lucille Volume

Recommended Posts

My Lucille is a very loud guitar with a real shimmer to the sound.

For those of you with an ES-335 and an ES-355 with the ebony fret board, could you do an unplugged comparison?

I'm trying to determine if it's the ebony or the lack of sound holes that makes my 335 sound muted next to the Lucille.

As for the Lucille I think it's more the individual guitar. Several people who have played my 2009 ES-345 comment on the piano like tone unplugged.

"there that one did the trick" If they only could have heard it...".

Thanks John

It didn't occur to me it would be the entire neck, I was thinking the fret board material.

Richlite and Ebony boards are supposedly brighter, but I don't think nearly as much so as the neck being maple (quarter sawn, I believe).

I think the lack of F holes actually quiet it down, but only the slightest amount. I have a BB King and other 335s/345 for comparison.

Even though there is the obvious blues connection to the BB King, I find it interesting that it is, I believe, the ES-3xx type best suited for the loudest high gain rock you can throw at it. No F holes, maple neck, 490 pups all made to fight that fire. What else could be done to make it better suited for that?
