gnappi
Is having more than one of a Gibson model just a Les Paul thing, or does the Gibson full sized semi ES-33x (333,335,345,347, 355) have a player / collector following? I found the over the years the 16" semis have varied enough with different neck profiles and factory installed pups / electronics made my having more than one cover more sonic ground space.

Wmachine
That has to be a tongue in cheek question. A cruise though guitar forums (including this one) will tell you that just about every basic Gibson model type has a following. You can add to your list various signature models like the Trini Lopez and the BB King Lucille.

gnappi
In case you haven't noticed this is a Gibson forum and: A. I don't care about your investigations on other sites And B. If you have time to hunt the net do so, I asked where I thought I'd get the most or best replies. I was clearly wrong.
Wmachine
Boy you really have to have some grand anger issues to hump my leg over that. No anger issues at all, and I think it is too bad that that you take offense at all, let alone enough to attack me for responding. I'm a huge "ES full sized semi" fan, but I'll leave you alone since you are that unfriendly. I don't have the time or inclination. At least anyone else that dares to respond has been warned. Have a nice day. Edited December 14, 2018 by Wmachine

Larsongs
I have a great 2012 Gibson ES335 with MHS Pickups & a Gibson Memphis Blacktop ES Les Paul with Bigsby also with MHS Pickups... Both are different but fantastic Guitars... I don't see a need for any duplicates.. I do have other Gibsons & Epiphones. All do something different... Love them all.. powerwagonjohn
I have a 2009 ES-345, 1975 Guild Starfire IV with a mahogany body and a 2013 Guild GSR Starfire VI with a spruce top and maple body. All are thin line semi hollow body guitars with dual humbuckers. These all seem like they are similar guitars but all are quite different playing and sounding and unique in their own way. I don't think I would but another Starfire or a ES-335. Although I would buy a ES-330 and I am not trying to be a smart ***. Thanks John

I like them as much as my ES Semi Hollows! Great Guitars! Not trying yo be a Smart *** either. Just don't want anyone to think they are lesser quality Guitars.... gnappi
One BB King and a LP. The LP is on its way out for a Guild JF-30. BB will be with me till I'm done breathing. An acquaintance of mine has a BB and it rocks. I thought I wouldn't like it when I first saw it but was I ever wrong.
musicaine
I have a Gibson ES335 TDC from 1999, made in Nashville with great Hepcat pickups. Killer guitar. A new ES335 traditional antique ebony, 2018. I’ve changed the tailpiece for an alumnium Gibson historic and set it wraparound. I have a rare Challenger II with Di Marzio pickups and an original vibrato system.
Larsongs
Yeah they kill. Now Gibson wants 5500 for them. Wonder why they have/had financial issues? Not so much because of Guitars... It's all the other Dumb *** stuff they screwed up on in the past few years.. The Guitars, for the most part, have continued to be some of the best in the Business... Larsongs
Your right but charging 5500 for guitars when they are trying to recover is ridiculous. I see tons of Gibson's for sale on Ebay from Japan cause they are the only ones who can afford them. The majority of Gibsons are much less than $5500 & to even further diversify their Price Points they have Epiphone... I think there's room for a few high end Guitars... gnappi
Gibson is like Apple in many ways, they did well despite many blunders. Apple computers clung to nubus, proprietary video and I/O while losing market share but their extreme creativity on new platforms was well received, and they are still an amazingly successful company. I think where Gibson lost its way is the diversification route they chose, and unlike Apple new Gibson guitar models generally do not fare well with players. That said, for me there are just too many excellent older Gibson models out there that don't even approach the $3k mark to even consider buying new... so that's where my dollars go from now on. For a long time I've looked seriously at the Lucille and just recently took delivery on an early one without the bling... I'm loving it. SteveFord
What do you mean by "without the bling"? Do you have any pictures of this new arrival? As for myself, a 335 Satin and a Lucille, that's enough.
gnappi
What do you mean by "without the bling"? Do you have any pictures of this new arrival? Sure, it has dot markers instead of block, no gold TRC... actually no gold at all, no VT, unbound head, black PG not tortoise, Gibson winder tuners, not Grover. It does have stereo output jacks and the FB was "supposedly" rosewood but if mine is rosewood it's the darkest, tightest grained rosewood I've ever seen. From Wiki: "Gibson made the B.B. King Standard model from 1980 to 1985. This model had chrome hardware and dot inlays instead of block inlays" Edited January 11, 2019 by gnappi
SteveFord
Okay, thanks. I bought a new Lucille DeLuxe back in 1980 and I knew they had a different version (Standard) but I had never seen one. Now I have.
gnappi
Is the 80's "deluxe" the same git that is available today?
SteveFord
Kinda sorta. Ebony fret board, tuners that had flip out winding arms, brass nut but other than that, same as the recent ones with the VariTone, stereo, gold plated hardware, black case w/ no shroud. If you have September 1980 Guitar Player with BB King he goes into detail about the model and there's a full page ad from Gibson as well. It was touted as a commemorative limited run model but then they ended up putting it into regular production which really ticked me off. I think I paid $2200 back in 1980 for it. I remember it being pretty expensive. Here's a listing for what could very well have been my old guitar although I don't know what the deal is with that circle on the cavity plate on the back. https://reverb.com/i...llent-condition Edited January 13, 2019 by SteveFord
