My Holiday Video For You

Hey, I know some of you expected a lot of bells and whistles this year, but circumstances only allowed me to knock out this simple tune for my holiday greeting video. Last year I went maple, so this year it's hog. I played my Fuller's Vintage 1939 J-35 Reissue, which is a favorite of mine. I only wish my recording skills could do its voice justice.

While my effort was modest this year, I hope I am able convey the Spirit of the Season and my feeling of appreciation for each of you on this very enjoyable board. Have a Wonderful Christmastime, everyone. And all the other holidays, too.

Consider that Spirit of the Season conveyed. "Just knocked one together", eh? Such a treat, after so many YouTube vid views. Enjoyed the production- that double shot of the guitar walkdown with only the J-35 headstock in focus, starting at :38 . . . NICE. 'Played it back on the powered studio monitors- the percussion sounds were so clean, the bass as well. Nice jackets on the Three Red Holy Men a-singing, coulda gone with 20 or more jacketed backup singers, though. Thanks for your effort just the same. [smile]

Merry Christmas

Wow, thanks for the many kind comments. I'm glad it sounded good on monitor speakers. I mixed it on some computer speakers to approximate how it would sound on a laptop or phone, since I figured those are how most people would experience it. I can't take credit for the kick drum sound--that was a MIDI instrument, but the snare was a cajon that I miced. The bass was miced through a small cabinet, and I gave it a little EQ boost so it could be heard on small speakers, a tip a Googled. This was my first experience using Digital Audio Workstation software, and I really enjoyed it. Merry Christmas!

Loved it Red. Merry Christmas to you and your family, and thanks for the much needed smile after hell week!

Thanks, Sal. And thanks for the extra dose of motivation this year! Sorry your week was hell. I hope the coming week and the rest of the holiday season is merry and bright.

If I was to “knock out a simple tune” like this for Christmas next year, I’d need to start now. This was terrific. Thanks for the Christmas spirit, and Merry Christmas to you.

You don't know the half of it. I had actually started well before Sal and the others began goading me in another thread on Dec 5. I'm impossibly slow learning new music, and I also had to learn how to use the audio production software. I'm also not a very good player. I could NEVER just turn the camera on and play a song all the way through without screwing it up like so many of the talented people on this board can do. I need a lot of takes and to edit them together! Glad you enjoyed my effort. Happy Holidays!
