jjrpilot 6 Report post Posted January 4, 2019 Well tomorrow I'm taking my 2017 J45 Standard in to have the current pickups swapped out for a KK Pure Mini. I hate replacing batteries and I know a passive KK Mini should do the trick. I also bought a bone saddle to have them install too...........can't wait!!! rbpicker 20 Report post Posted January 4, 2019 I did the same thing with my J45 standard. It sounds fantastic, and the weight reduction is noticeable. Roger
MissouriPicker 388 Report post Posted January 5, 2019 I installed one in my J100. An easy install (has to be if I can do it). Really good sound, with or without a DI. strong signal for a passive pickup.
Jinder 165 Report post Posted January 5, 2019 I like the K&K in my Hummingbird 12 and '67 J45 just fine. Great pickups. You'll also find your guitar sounds better without the piezo element of your old pickup between your saddle and bridge, I know I do every time I install a soundhole pickup or K&K. sbpark 26 Report post Posted January 5, 2019 (edited) I did the same thing as well in my 2017 J45 Standard, ditching the stock UST and battery for a K&K, and also replaced the tuners with vintage-style 3-on-a-plate tuners and the weight reduction is VERY noticeable, and the guitar sounds much better both lugged in and unplugged. uncle fester 461 Report post Posted January 5, 2019 For folks with the K&K, I heard that feedback can be a problem, but using a feedback buster in the soundhole addresses the problem (a $10 fix or so). Is a feedback buster always required, or under what circumstances would you expect to need it? Thanks for any input... rgds - billroy
blindboygrunt 288 Report post Posted January 5, 2019 I never needed a feedback buster with mine Stop reading about stuff online 😂
Buc McMaster 191 Report post Posted January 5, 2019 I've never had a feedback problem at open mics with the K&Ks in my 45 or 35.. At one I frequent most often I play with another guitar player and an amplified electric bass with fold back monitors as well.........no feedback issues. Much of that is attributable to the fact that we are not playing at stadium volume levels, which at my age, is a fact I greatly appreciate.
uncle fester 461 Report post Posted January 5, 2019 Thx Buc, BBG. OP - good luck today and I look forward to a positive report out.
vw1300 5 Report post Posted January 6, 2019 I put a K&K in my J-50 about 2 years ago, am very happy. I'm pretty sure you will like the results.
Salfromchatham 235 Report post Posted January 6, 2019 I use a feedback buster. It is necessary for where I play... loud... bars... two guitars two vocals... tight play space close to PA system... Keep in the case... always there if you need it.

I agree 1000% with this Jinder. IMO, the two big strikes against any pickup that is an under-saddle ribbon; 1) piezo quack 2) reduction of resonant transfer from saddle to bridge and hence reduced tone unplugged.
