NYE Gibson fest ...

So, we put on a big party this NYE, at my place here in Prague.

For the past 18 months weve been holding open mike jams with my girlfiend (Mrs EA is no longer in the picture) at our place every couple months, and this time we decided to do a NYE Open Mike extravaganza.

There was about 14 of us, half of us musicians, the other just looking good. The idea was the everyone had to dress up as their fave muso and sing a song, either from guitar or a backing tape,

We had Freddie, Amy Winehouse, Nick Cave, PJ Hervey and I did sort of Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode) hard try ... and sang a few DM songs to get the nite going.

It was a great nite, with big fireworks at midnight that we enjoyed on the terrace, and also three of my Gibsons were on display and in rotation, The J-150, Dove and my friend Monika from Warsaw who was tearing it up on the Les Paul.

Well do the next one in late Feb if anyone would like to drop in for a jamm ..

Hey, cheers guys. Just to provide a bit more context the split with Mrs EA was 18 months ago, and all is good. Were good mates and it was a 'conscious decoupling' as Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin once said Actually been a real good 18 months and a lot has changed. Life is a journey, always changes, twists and turns ...thats part of the adventure.

Alll good here, although I am seriously thinking of thinning my herd signficantly and just of focus on the 4 or so guitars in the stable that I truly love. Divorce has a habit of shedding a lot of skin and simplifying your life, or it has at least for me.

Anyways, Im off to Australia today for 3 weeks. Will try to make a video of some banner Gibsons at Twang Central in Adelaide. (hopefully BK777 wont be there at same time, or things might get interesting)

Now he knows he’ll be sitting waiting on you with a Maton all lubed up

And yeah a divorce does make you shed a lot of unnecessary clutter

Reassuring to see you're still out there getting it done.

Well, I thought some universal law said divorce meant the opposite - more guitars.

But boil down to 4.

Hmmm, my guess would be :

The 150

The Dove

The TV Bird

The LG-2, , , could of course also be the SJ or the Mart.

Keep rollin'

You got 50% right Em7.

J-150

Dove

Southern Jumbo

Furch OM

(and probably the Martin, for its fingerpicking qulities)

For some reason it would make me strangely blue to see the Bird go.

Maybe because I saw it come, , , , also clearly remember the passion as it finally flew it. .

And what now shall make you sit grinning all day at the office, , , if not the sight of the caramel-flier.

Very cool party.

I'd like to put together an open mic for some of the old timers around here. You know, like me.

There is a wonderful open mike already. It's called "The Gibson Homecoming". It's nothing but Gibson folks playing Gibson guitars. It's a open mike for two nights. Folks sign up and they play one or two songs and it's recorded. It's pretty cool. A lot of folks play for the first time in front of an audience and after several years they are very good performers.

Just come to Bozeman. If you don't want to travel with your guitar no problem. There are plenty of very good Gibson's to play. I will be happy to lend you one of mine. There are tours of the Gibson plant and several other builders as well.

After the open mike sessions there are guitar circles that go into the night. It's all good fun. The hotel is very accommodating and offers a hospitality suite for the open mike and there is a very good restaurant as well as bar.

If you have a local open mike keep us informed as some here would surly show up.
