ethan57 Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 I've owned my '61 SG/Les Paul re-issue for 9 years now and have never been able to keep the pickup covers clean. I don't sweat or otherwise funk my guitars up when playing (constantly) so I know that's not the problem. I rely on a Les Paul Standard for weekly shows and teaching and rarely even play the SG. So although it lives in it's case for the most part the pickup covers seem to have developed a lumpy discoloration that no cleaner will get off. I've tried every guitar cleaner and polish I could find with no luck. I tried the Vintage re-issue restoration kit. That sorta got the tailpiece clean but not the pickup covers. I'm at a loss as to what to do here. It's irritating that an otherwise mint guitar has hardware that's decaying before my eyes. Any ideas?
dem00n Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Ok gibson has a guitar resortion kit its come with fretboard condtitoner, guitar polish, metal cleaner, 2 polish cloths and a metal bursh. for $15.95. I saw this on a zzounds magzine so if ur wondering where to get it.
dem00n Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 I duno if its diffrent from the reissue cleaning kit if it is forget it then. You try the System 65 guitar maintencae kit from Dunlop its really nice for my guitars.
80LPC Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Might be some help here : http://forums.gibson.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=13242
hbomb76 Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 As I said in my post on the link you were provided in the above post, I use NevR-Dull, and it helps rejuvenate my nickel parts (don't expect it to get rid of scratches and wear, but it'll take the dull/cloudy oxidation off well). H-Bomb
