Any instructions put forward to those close to you ? dont want mine to end up in the classifieds or in the window of a cash converter
jedzep
My stepson, one of my best friends and better players I know, asked me over T'giving how long I was thinking of clinging to life, while looking over the guitars that hang on my walls. I guess that answers the question. He's looking to upgrade from his Taks. I did take the precaution of keeping a notebook of repairs, FONs, build year and approx value, so he can keep from getting hosed should he sell. Boyd
Whenever they visited, my son in law always favored my 1974 j-50 (which I bought new). So a few years ago I gave it to him. Why not give some your guitars to someone who will appreciate them while you're still alive? :) As for the rest.... my daughter is my only heir so she will have to deal with all that. I will be dead then, and I won't care what happens to my guitars.
livemusic
I do care what happens to my guitars because it took me many years to accumulate them and many are stellar. I made provisions in my will as to who gets what and what to do with the rest. I also have a spreadsheet of model, SN, value, etc. In the end, if I still have the same flock (and hope it's much smaller by then) many will be sold but I made provisions for that. I did this too. Not planning on checking out anytime soon, but I've lost several friends recently, and I don't want my wife selling a $4k guitar at a yard sale for $100! zombywoof
More than a few of us may end up muttering something to the effect I wished I had told my wife what I had really paid for those guitars. In all honesty though, I do not really care what happens to my guitars after I depart this mortal coil.
Holiday Hoser
I always joked that when I die cremate my Gibsons with me and spread my ashes in Nazareth, Pennsylvania on the lawn of the Martin factory.
OldCowboy
I did this too. Not planning on checking out anytime soon, but I've lost several friends recently, and I don't want my wife selling a $4k guitar at a yard sale for $100! Yeah, I have records, too. Most include back-stories on each guitar. Doubt anyone will much care, but all of 'em came to my possession through unique circumstances - at this time, the "I just ran across it..." category is flat empty. Wouldn't mind being around long enough to accumulate a couple more....
MissouriPicker
My guitars will go to my son, then grandson, and son-in-law. My grandson is showing lots of enthusiasm for playing, so I'm hoping he catches fire with it.......Beyond that, I don't care what happens to them when I'm gone. They undoubtedly mean something to me emotionally and personally, but I don't expect them to mean that to someone else. They're just objects that one day I won't need...........I'm definitely one of those folks Zombywolf was referring to.....I hope that if I die before my wife that she doesn't sell my guitars and n scale trains for what I told her I paid for them. livemusic
Guitars can go up in value. You guys can still show 'current value' or 'potential value' and get away with it in the end!
Murph
None of my guitars are that special in the "big" picture. My 1933 mandolin that Scotty Stoneman owned is pretty cool, but in a few more years nobody will remember him either. So, no. I have made no plans for mine. It doesn't really matter.
