BenderOfStrings
Gibson, why are you still putting dot inlay on this model? No Gibson Les Paul that costs over a grand should have freaking dot inlay! You had trapezoids on this model up to 2017, and then you switched it. WHY?? The only Les Paul models that should have dot inlay are Jr's and Melody Makers. Every other LP model should have trapezoids or blocks for the customs! I like your lineup for 2019, except for this one model. If you had included the trapezoids (even just the acrylic ones), it would've been perfect! sparquelito
Okay, I'm weird. I don't care for the trapezoid inlays, and never really have. I prefer the dots, if given a choice between the two. Chiefly, I would rather all my guitars have no inlays on the fingerboards at all. (Tiny dot markers on the top side of the neck are fine.) My 2001 Les Studio Paul Copper Top was like that; bare ebony fingerboard. Loved it. My current Les Paul, the 2018 Faded, in worn bourbon finish, features the dots. I probably wouldn't have gotten it with the trapezoids. They would have seemed incongruous to the overall stripped-down groove I like with this guitar. (naked pickups, no edge binding, rustic finish) Does that make sense, or am I alone in this? :(
SteveT2
I do like the traps on my SG and LP and for a long time that's all I wanted to see on a Gibson. My 339 Studio has dots and they've really grown on me. If that's what comes on a guitar now I'm good with them
Wild Bill 212
I had a 2016 Les Paul Studio Faded, paid $685 for it 'Out-The-Door' @ a Moron-a-thon @ GC and even that had TRAPEZOIDS. AND BURST-BUCKER Pro's too, sounded great Plugged-in, but whatta POS sound it had UN-PLUGGED, UGH ! so bad I just got rid of it...... N E way, for my $1,000...I think its reasonable to want anything but 'DOTS', especially on a Lester.........EE-GAD MON, IMO...... that Guitar looks bad with dots. How many toasters have you returned because they worked great plugged in but worked like a POS when unplugged?

sparquelito
I thought I was the only weird one! Bare boards look best Check out the bare fingerboard on my Fender Aerodyne bass. The specs page says it features, "7.25”-radius stained rosewood fingerboard with 20 medium jumbo frets and no inlays (side dots only)" Love it! :)

I thought I was the only weird one! Bare boards look best ... You should have seen the reaction of muted horror over in the Djangobooks forum when I rebuilt my early '40s Antoine di Mauro 'bare' and mentioned I might not re-instate the original diamond-form celluloid inlays. They were even more concerned when I suggested that, were I ever to put them back, I might change the 10th fret inlay - which, apparently, is the norm for G-J guitars - in the more usual 9th fret position... Really a Very Nice Bunch of Folks but "Don't Mess with Historical Instruments" is the order of the day. And quite rightly so, of course. Pip. justjoshin
Sweetwater has limited edition exclusive Tributes with traps on the boards in gold and black satin. I was about to order a goldtop but now I second guessing that after seeing the new NAMM videos. Interested in the new 50's standard model in Gold...
