IanHenry
I thought I'd seen all the Alex Harvey Band footage on You Tube, but this very early live film popped up. I think this may appeal to Pippy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chJR94zG4_M Ian

pippy
Thanks for that, Ian! Really made me grin! "No Lights.." has long been a personal favourite. I'd like to hear the rest of the interview with John Peel. I don't remember ever seeing Alex interviewed back in the day. I particularly loved this exchange; JP : "Music stands and little suits and bow-ties?..." AH : "No, no. No. Sweaters. We were Progressive..." Great man. As, of course, was John Peel. Pip. EDIT : Them's fighting words Pip... Oh, no. Ian clearly knows me well!

pippy
I see. This'd be when you drove the 914? Gosh! You've a good memory! I sort-of wish I still had it. It would be really fun to pootle up to see Ian and go for a jolly with me in the 914 and him driving his Moggie! But with a wife who, for reasons unknown to me, hated the noise, the fumes, the lack of any heating, the Noise!, the leaking roof-seals, the semi-track suspension set-up, the Noise!!!...and then when Chloe popped up we had the option to either put her in the boot (front or rear, Darling? There are two on the 'fourteener' you know!) or get something sensible. Votes were cast and the result was tied at one apiece but, the wife having a casting vote (eh?), the cull was inevitable. Pip. pippy
Another couple of favourites. Zal by now in his trademark 'Mime' makeup and green suit. Very underrated guitarist. Not that you can see in the first clip!... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSDG_orE2I8 Pip.

pippy
Well, of course it does; you drive a Morgan!... We keep straying from SAHB but I have to say the 914 is a very underrated car. The 'Six' variant had the out-going 2.0L flat-six from the 911 so it had exactly the same performance but as it was mid-engined and lighter it had far superior handling abilities. The original 1.7 was a bit flaccid in comparison to other Porsche fare but after the Six was dropped they brought out a 2.0L four which had almost exactly the same characteristics as the Six. This was the version I had and it was an absolute hoot to drive. The engine had been put together - in a decidedly warmed-over form - by a specialist air-cooled race-engine builder and was simply fantastic. A pair of twin Weber 40's - which meant each cylinder had it's own carburettor - replaced the unreliable Bosch fuel injection unit. Add the firmed-up suspension tweaks and a tuned exhaust into the mix and you can imagine how much fun it was to drive on twisty country lanes with the roof section stowed away in the rear boot! Sadly, here in the UK, the Six variants are now ludicrously expensive and even the Fours are fetching silly money if in good condition. Pip. jdgm
SAHB drummer Ted McKenna passed away on 19th January during surgery. A great shame; I was fortunate enough to meet him briefly in 1993, a very nice man. A few years later I clocked him playing with Amos Garrett at the Borderline in London. He was only 68, not too much older than me. A tremendous musician. R.I.P.

Ah, now that is a shame. He was also recruited by Rory Gallagher for his 'new' trio in 1978 in what is my favourite Gallagher lineup (along with Gerry McEvoy on bass). He played on three Gallagher studio albums and, FWIW, Photo Finish is my favourite studio Gallagher album of all. R.I.P., Mr McKenna. Here's one for all those happy memories you and the boys have left with us; Pip.
IanHenry
So sorry to hear Ted has passed away. It's surprising how many people pass away during routine surgery, Alvin Lee, one of the Bee Gees and now Ted. Looks to me like there's no such thing as safe surgery even in this day & age. RIP Ted.
