DF DELAYED UNTIL JULY 2009 FOR UK?

Hey everyone (especially 'have nots')

I just checked Gear4Music's website and it now states DF delivery dates as July 2009, I have not spoken to them yet but they have been on the ball in the past, always being the first dealer inthe UK to publish delays to delivery dates. I hope for the sake of all 'have not's' it is wrong but worth checking with your dealers.

After cancelling in January I was about to re-order having not been able to get DF off my mind and being addicted to this forum but if that delivery date is accurate I will have to hold off. I'll try and call them today to confrim.

UPDATE

Just spoke to Gear4music and the sales rep told me that their estimate 0f 16 July 2009 is not confrimed by Gibson but they have always been accurate in the past. He also told me that a shipment of DF's that arrived in the UK recently were recalled immediately to Gibson. So bottom line is this may be bad information but IMO I doubt very much that any DF's will be in the UK before easter at the earliest. Sorry all for being the bearer of bad news.

Hear hear now. There is a reason this thing is called "Limited Edition" don't you think? If every Joe & Jill could get their hands on one then where would it end? This is classic survival of the fittest don't you see? Outwit, outplay & outlast. So have heart guys & gals. He/she who waits will get the goodies. Or you can simply give up on Gibson Europe and buy direct from US. I am sure some dealers still has some stock out there.

Just ran a search on a musical instrument search site here in Japan.

Can't read and understand but I think there are few out there being sold by actual owners and then some shops are taking order. I deduce this from the stock advertising shots vs two that are received unit shots with the protective brown paper etc. Check it out. One of them has rather nice flames as well. I think they are selling at around JPY 330000 which should be about US$3400 or so. Add about US$200 for shipping you should still end up cheaper than the European price. If anyone wants me to look into this I can give these guys a call tomorrow. Let me know.

You're right MCK, thank you for your investigation.

But if you ad ca. 4% customs and 19% tax and $200 for the first RMA, you have a total of $4650, no chance of returning the guitar, if it looks like Brookfloyd's with a white case that isn't white.......

I'm just wondering whether the delay is more to do with the lawers of Gibson and Tronical fighting over who bears the costs of the recalls and modifications, rather than just the hardware/software fixes themselves!

Afterall, how long does it take to rework the software and get replacement parts produced? If May/June/July is the anticipated date for Europe, that is around 6 months from the original launch date. Should it take that long for hardware/software updates?

I understand there is currently a minor hardware issue with the RIP, and the fix is being installed before the next shipment batch. Current owners of RIP will be supplied instructions on the best path to render a fix. - This solves the bug due to the RIP's periodic "battery recharge" cycle that always creates short duration audio drop outs.

Hard to tell for sure with DF, but I had to whipp a team of 14 hardware/software engineers for some years. And they tend to:

a) not to be impressed at all by delays and products in stand-by (I mean, we told ya!)

:-k not to be impressed at all either by the whipping thing

c) think in development cycles

So, while they can adress small emergencies (one day or two of work for one guy), they love fitting bugs/updates/improvements in one large lists adressed in one development cycle of some month, where they can break and rebuild everything. Deadlines tend to be international trade shows, every 6 month or so.

Then everything that falls in between, along with requests, ideas & suggestions made by the marketing dudes is considered major nuisance. So, if DF and/or 15th of December was an idea from the marketing dpt., no luck!

Oh, and they love deadlines and the they like the wooshing sound they make as they fly by!

(as first expressed by Douglas Adams)

... They love Douglas Adams too

Yes we should. I should also try to turn them into a book, or musical, some day!

But then, a musical without love and romance isn't that appealing for people with a life.

(And of course, not too much love and romance in a Dev Team)

:-)

Thanks Elantric for the update. That's good to know.
