About Anna...

As soon as I got word that "Anna" was sending private messages containing a porn link, I deleted her account. She is dead. That is, until "she" comes back with a different user name and new account. Just like we deal with every day.

Remember not so long ago when we got spam posts that would seemingly come in waves? Sometimes (usually over a weekend) we got dozens of casino, Viagra, and Russian bride posts? The admins of this group did a good job of closing that gate. Now, when a person (or dog, or robot, or genetically engineered head of lettuce) creates a new account and makes their first post, it is subject to approval by a mod. Regular forum members don't see it but I do, highlighted in pink. When I see that a new person has posted for the first time, I read their post. Every one of them. If they are legit, asking about Grampy's LG0 or asking why SGs aren't available in pink sparkle, I approve it. Henceforth, they are able to post like anyone else. If they are clearly spammers, they are summarily banned and therefore won't be able to post.

One loophole, which I have asked the admins about, is the ability of any new member to send private messages.....like Anna did. I've asked if it's possible to disable a new member's private messaging ability until they have otherwise been approved by virtue of their first post being reviewed and approved. Maybe, maybe not. I don't know what this forum is capable of doing.

Side note, some have speculated that Anna is really a forum member who was recently removed....the IP addresses don't match, for whatever value that nay have.

I visit a half dozen forums, so I turn PM's off. People can contact me via e-mail if they like, and I'm more than happy to respond.

Anna hasn't e-mailed me.

But I know from spam in my e-mail box, the scam bots never give up. Lately I've been getting a lot of the same e-mail threat spoofing my own e-mail address. He or she (it) gives me 48 hours to send a huge amount of money in bitcoins or it will send pictures to all my contacts of me taken with my computer's camera (when I bought my computer, I opted out of the camera), visiting sites I've never been to, which would potentially be embarrassing.

I've been getting them ever since Joanne on this forum posted she got one, and they come in waves. 3 or 4 a day for a few days, none for a few days, then another group for a few days, all worded a little differently, with different variations of poor English grammar and spelling, but with the same threat. Since they are spoofing my e-mail address, I can't block them, so I just nuke them. It's a PITA but not any more than the "Satisfy your partner with a bigger _____." (Note if my partner has a bigger ______ than me, he's the wrong gender for my tastes.) I've even gotten e-mails telling me I can increase my bust size. Well now, I've seen guys who need a man-bra and I don't want to get that heavy. Obviously the potential victims are not targeted. A spam bot can send out zillions of these things for practically zero money, and if they get one sucker out of a million phishing attacks, they make a profit.

My thanks to the moderators who IMHO are doing a great job keeping the scam posts out of this forum. It must be a constant job with very little thanks. I think I also speak for a number of other silent members when I say "Than you very much."

I'm so out of the loop, nobody propositioned me at all ever. Please feel free to message me with your wretched pornographic filth. At the very least it'll keep the moderators busy.

i think what you are proposing is a good idea, and here is why:

i belong to another guitar forum where there is alot of first time posters who come n and post videos of themselves playing to mp3s of their favorite song.

those people never post in any other thread, ever. they don't share wisdom, they don't questions. they are only there fishing for youtube views. they have no intention of being a part of, or contributing to the community there. i hate that. to me, that's spam just like the nigerian guys. i have asked the mods there time and again to restrict new users so that they cannot post links until they have 10 posts. i hate when i go there, and some guy has posted his link in ever sub section across the board.

nothing was done until some guy came in and made over a dozen posts with the same youtube link in it. i told the guy he was a spammer, went to his channel and down-thumbed him, and said why in the comment section. i posted in all the threads, my idea to discourage that behavior. many other members agrees, and finally something was done. we haven't seen those kinds of posts since then.
