G Mac Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 Today is the birhtday of Andres Segovia...The man who brought the guitar from being a parlor instrument to being a serious concert instrument. His contribution to the popularity and repertoire of the guitar is undeniable. Please take the time to enjoy the maestro...
jdgm Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 Well done. Very good call. Happy Birthday. I was fortunate enough to actually see the Maestro himself on one of his very last 'farewell' tours - I think it probably was his last visit to England. BBC theatre in Regent St London. Early 80s perhaps? By that time he had lost a lot, but when the cogs all meshed in sync so to speak (as they did on a few occasions during his recital) it was fxxxin' amazing. You cannot gainsay or underestimate what this guy did. And the fact that he was Spanish, a King.
cody78 Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 I was listening to Segovia yesterday as I went to a concert by the classical guitarist Craig Ogden over the weekend which led me route out any classical guitar CD's I had. Yep, Segovia was brilliant, I especially liked his Bach recitals.
