Release the hounds!

I understand a blue Hummingbird may seem like heresy to some.......there was a time when I might have felt the same.......but this guitar is a serious player! On the fretboard it feels much like the Les Pauls I used to play, just silky smooth and easy. The Sunbeams really sound good on this one and may well be the right set. So today the Rotomatics come off, the keystones on......the factory active system comes out, the K&K goes in. I've ordered a replacement guard in plain tortoise, .028 thick, that I may or may not use when it arrives. With the guitar being blue a traditional engraved Hummingbird guard just doesn't look right............maybe the plain one will do the trick. But I kinda like the look without a guard and may leave it naked.......don't much mind if the top gets a bit beat up over time..........it's a tool.

Awesome on every front! I like no pickguard, but have come to believe a hummingbird deserves hummingbirds. I don't like covering that color blue, maybe something custom understated, but still hummingbirds, or I'd get an artist to stencil something right on the front still leaving the pg off - black outlines only. Probably not, just leave it.

Ya know, I always come to the conclusion that it's really hard to see what color your guitar is when you're getting busy playin it... I lean traditional so it wouldn't be something that I'd be lured to, but they are bought to be played, so if it's a good player, than it's GOOD period. Blue or not.

have fun with the upgrades / mods Buck...

Work done.

K&K sounds warm and woody through the Schertler amp.........most excellent pickup. Headstock now sports the correct machine heads for a Hummingbird. Much, much lighter overall than it was, being all stripped down now.

Black with the etching cutout? Hmmm......sounds interesting. I was thinking of a pure white guard with no etching, picking up the white binding, but can't find anyone that has a white single layer less than 0.060"........much to thick for an acoustic top. The tortoise one ordered is 0.028", way thin. Still liking it without the guard for now though..........

My Frankenbird had one of those white guards plastered on it I got it from Norm's. So thin you could see the glue through it. Shotcanned it and got a nice one from Allparts still not thick enough though.

A earlier thread had custom ones from from Greece but a long wait and 175 price tag kept me from pulling the trigger. Maybe for Christmas???
